Was wondering if the 4,6,8 cadillac engine would be a viable engine swap? I've read of the early 80's cadillac engine...is there a updated version of this that could be used in the GMC?

The 4 6 8 is something GM would like to sweep under the rug. An idea too soon for the tech of the day. Warranty issues. Cylinder deactivation isn't of much use in a 11,000 # vehicle like the TZE. Now a 4L80E with a chain would be cool.

The late '90s NorthStar would be a great powerplant. I had a '98 Olds Aurora with the 4.0L V8, what an awesome car. I was surprised to sell it instead of part it out at 196k miles. Usually those NorthStars dump a head gasket long before that; I must have been lucky enough to have a PO that changed out the engine-killing Dexcool on a regular basis. The 4.6L Caddy version had 300+ HP and made good torque too.

Even if the 4,6,8 did work well in the automobile, considering the load that the MH puts on the motor most of the time, I doubt that it would spend much time in the 4 or 6 mode any way. JMHO

And, the 4,6,8 motor was a 368 CID, not enough to power the 12K lbs that the GMC weighs....
