So here is a mystery question to the brain trust. It is GMC Motorhome related.

Attached are two photographs:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6256/m_017.jpg

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6256/m_017.jpg

And

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6256/m_018.jpg

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/6256/m_018.jpg

two people know the answer already...please don't spoil the fun.

First correct answer gets a prize to be determined...won't be worth the postage but hey...you'll have bragging rights.

The first is a tool to reach the strap to pull down an awning...and combination coat hook. I'm guessing it wasn't store bought.

The second is a cable guide eye, maybe for a parking brake.

I love whatizzit posts. I never get the correct answer, but I still love them. Wink

I'm not sure about the first item, but the second one is a ring that goes in your trailer hitch and acts as a toilet seat.
Too cold for us Canucks up here.

Clearly the first thing is a genuine Johnson rod. A really rare item.

Some hints.

- It's not an awning strap grabber...although it would work for that. Normally, it would be in use when you wish to extend your awning.

- It's not a toilet seat. It is an extreme close of a 5/16 cable eye.

- The two parts together do something that MOST GMCers wish had been designed better by GMC.... No, it's not the 100mpg carb. Laughing

If the eye was on the end of the awning , I could use the tool to spinit and roll, unroll it.
If the eye was on the end of a jack, I could use the tool to raise or lover jack.
again as I look at tool, I can see how spinning tool would allow toool to latch to eye, but turning ccw instead of for example lowering a jack, would it not just unlatch for tool to be emoved from eye?
Is hook on tool small enough to hold a beer bottle because I am too lazy to get up and walk the 3 feet to the beer cooler?
maybe the eye is attached to the bottom og my cooler , so then the tools job is to help me drag mybeer cooler ?

Not an engine cover brace...nothing to do with the awning or beer.

Another hint:

It is safety related.

Hmmm...

Some sort of contraption to push the brake pedal down and hook it... providing a make-shift emergency brake ??

That second one looks like a hook for safety chains on a hitch.
I used similar item, as a kid, to the first to shake my grandmas pecan tree, when she was not around.

I'm betting it's a device to hold the steering wheel straight in a towd (the eye bolt being installed through the carpet near the front of the driver's seat).

I suspect you are correct but why do we need something like that?

DING DING DING We have a winner.

Yep, it's a strictly mechanical version of Ken Henderson vacuum operated parking brake. I'll do a write up this evening.

Dirt simple, works good, adjustable, etc. Cost was just stuff I had laying around.

If you set it tight enough, you CANNOT move the coach with the motor.

KISS at it's finest.

I think I'll build me one of these. I've done a lot of fiddling to make
the rear Caddy calipers work as an e-brake. Nope.

Wouldn't be a good choice for long term parking brake (tail lights,
mostly) but for those moments of terror when you KNOW you shouldn't be
relying on the transmission parking pawl it would be great. Gotta find a
way to store it within arms length, of course.

Kerry, of course you won't be able to move the coach; the battery will be dead from the brake lights being on..

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Great contest!

Part of the write up later tonight will be to move the brake wire to a ignition switched circuit instead of an always on circuit.

Kerry,

Since I always want my electronic cruise control ON when driving, I moved
the parking brake to the CC power switch with my PNEUMATIC parking brake.
