First of all, thanks for all the great suggestions. Here's what I did. I took a bit from one idea and a bit from another, so I owe everyone a beer. Come on by.

I got a three gallon Rubbermaid container then cracked loose the macerator and let the juice fill the container about three-fourths full. I then dumped the container down my sewer connection and cracked the macerator loose again. It was a little messy but not too bad. It took about 17 containers to fully drain the tank. Then I just leisurely connected the new macerator on to the drain pipe. I'll do the wiring tomorrow. I need a shower.

Thanks again to all.

If you put in toilet chemicals, it will cut the smell and also breaks down
the solids.

Thanks Jim. What specific chemicals would you recommend? There are several different types that each work differently.

By the way, I got my awnings last week and installed them both in one day without a hitch.

Halleleua !
Finally we can put this to rest. I suggest you end the original thread also, since you started a new one.

Lance,

Did you read what Dan aka WD0AFQ wrote on Sun, 11 August 2013 18:12 ??
If not, read it. If you did, read it again.
Macerators will always fail. it is best to be ready for them to fail at the least convenient time.

The chemical I will never recommend (even thought I did work for the company once), is Thetford Aquakem. It is just blue dye to make the material lest obvious, fragrence to cover up what it is and formaldehyde to stop the biological action that breaks things down (and makes them really stink).

I am now using Happy Camper. I got the big bucket from Amazon and I please with it so far. Pleased enough that when I had to let a used black tank sit for a week, I could enter the coach and not get assaulted by the odor. That was a new experience. It is also safe for septic systems because it doesn't kill the bugs. I'm not sure how it does it, but I am going to ask.

Matt - good night from Chicago....

How much of that "Happy Camper" did you use? I have the "Electra magic
recirculating" toilet which holds 3 gallons when charged. I was not a
happy camper. It did not help with the smell. I went back to the blue
stuff. It at least smells better.
