installing EFI on 3 GMC motorhomes.

We want to possibly do timing control.

I have been reading that the 307 distributor will do this.

But also read the corvette and camaro will too.

Anyone know for sure and which is better??

2 are 455 and 1 is 403

I have never heard that a corvette or camaro distributor will work. Doubt that they will because the Olds distributor turns the opposite direction than Chevies. Here is the list of donor vehicles that have the Olds 307 distributor that is a drop in replacement for the 455 and 403. You can also get a Patterson rebuilt CCD distributor. This was posted on the gmcmh efi google groups forum. You may want to join there if not already. Lots of good information and also access to google sites that has tip, tweaks, and other related efi information.

I decided on a rebuilt distributor as it seemed pretty cheap and that way I new the module was working and the bearings would be good. I believe there is only one company doing them. It is a Cardone 30-1873 This one comes with a 7 pin module and I did not have a pigtail to plug into it. I had to go to the moon and back in a goat's mouth to find one. Finally found one in Rimrock, AZ.

does anyone have pictures of the Right distributor from the 307 and what the harness looks like.

Also What I read on the Corvette thing is to get corvette module and use it in the original Dist and rip out the weights and vacuum advance.

Not sure anyone ansered your question about a picture. I don't have mine
out of the engine so can't get a picture. I looked up the distributor for
one of the vehicles I posted earlier and it shows a picture.

Might give you an idea. Actually, it looks just like the OEM distributor
without the weight mechanism and the vacuum advance mechanism. And yes,
you can convert the OEM to become a electronic. I don't believe that it
requires a module specific to a corvette. Any GM 7 pin module should do
the job. I have read instructions on the internet on how to do the
conversion. I have also heard an example of someone who did not get the
mechanical advance mechanism stabilized well enough and it slipped causing
damage to his engine.

What about the MSD Atomic system ?
I am thinking about buying a complete setup with the distributor, any comments and thoughts ?

I looked into the atomic system a while back but got cold feet when it came to the service end of the system.

Correct me if i'm wrong but it looks like you need to send the whole thing in to get fixed rather than just replace a single part.

Other than that it looked like a solid set up.

Re MDS system, for $3K I would be going for a port injection system instead of TBI.

I love my EBL TBI system and would not go back to a carburetor, but it has its drawbacks. IE rough cold idle when used on a cold intake manifold.

Hi Bruce

With a little fine tuning of your EBL the rough cold idle should be able to be corrected. If you go to a rally where some of us users are we can probably assist you. Or, perhaps George Beckman might give you some suggestions on the net.

Yes the price is high, but it should be easy to setup, only a few connections has to be made and I am not worried about the intergrated sensors, by the look of it so should it be possible to take the complete module off if something goes wrong.

And the $ 3000 is for a complete setup with distributor, ignition control and EFI with the fuel pump and so on.

But my consern is that it do not use a knock sensor and you can not add one, maybe not a big deal, but it would for sure be nice to have the option.

What is the price for a port injection system ?

Bruce, I just cured the cold rough idle on my analog Holley system, with the help of Emery. I suspect your's can also be cured. Now I hit the switch and it purrs like a kitten. Never idled right cold since I had it, 9 years.
