Conventional wisdom says over 50 lbs pressure should be metal stems. There are also different styles of metal stems, some are better than others.You want to use the ones least likely to blow out of the rim at the 60 + pressure used on most MH's. I don't know if there are DOT rules about this.

Metal are typically recommended for use with load range E tires.

Thee are also rubber stems that are rated for over 50 psi. Look at most 3/4 & 1 ton pick-ups these days. They all have rubber stems and LRE tires as do most trailer tires that run pressures up to 100psi.

Yes, true, but why take a chance. I had a rubber stem blow out on my old Travco several years ago and it ruined the tire. I switched to metal stems. Not that much more in cost and a great preventative step.
