I have purchased a meter that measures the flow from the freshwater tank. It has a remote readout that can be reset with every fill. My water tank is 40 gals so when the meter sez 35 gals used then I know I have 5 gals left in the tank. And as long as nobody puts a garden hose into the toilet the black water tank has the same 35 gals in it. Rather simple. The meter cost less that $40.

However, you are adding other liquids and solids to the waste tank.
There have been cases where people have not used up all of their fresh water but the waste tank has overflowed up into the shower pan.
Just watch how much been you drink between dumping! :)
