They look great except - no armrests. I don't know about you, but I gotta have an armrest. Very Happy

Look for BMW E31 seats (1991-1997 840/850). They're very similar, and are usually much cheaper.

Having a 91 E31, and done a ton of repairs to the mechanicals on the seats (I actually had to have a plastic gear molded rather than purchase a close to $1K rail assembly), I cannot recommend them as either comfortable for long distance,(firm), or easy to maintain (much less the fact they weigh lot). I used to be able to pull one myself, 15 years ago and now need some help. Yeah you don't get fix them once, a LOT to go wrong in them)(GRIN)

The armrests are nice though.

Those Bentley seats are nice, but only for a Bentley (IMHO). No armrests, and the "rub zone fabric" is going to look silly hanging out in free space instead of stuck up against the console.

There are a host of other options out there that would be cheaper, have armrests, and that would actually look better. The cockpit of a GMC is about as unconstrained as you're going to get, so the options are endless.

We very highly recommend Flexsteel seats from Bradd & Hall in Elkhart, IN.

We bought our '78 Eleganza in February 2004 in Tucson, AZ, from the original owner, Ed DeJong. The coach had been garaged from new. The interior was in very nice original condition with the GMC tan corduroy upholstery.

We immediately began full-timing it with a trip to the west coast from Tucson and back home across the southwest to Texas and then north to Michigan, east to the Virginias and south to Florida.

I soon found that after a couple of hours in the GMC driver's seat, I was becoming conscious of my bottom getting tired and found myself squirming around after about four hours of so. Susan was squirming too, mostly from the lack of lower lumbar support.

We attended the GMC Eastern States rally in Elkhart, IN, in July 2004. A chance shopping trip to Bradd & Hall in Elkhart changed our seating comfort forever. Bradd & Hall had a nice showroom with a lot of seats out on the floor.
http://www.braddandhall.com/productcart/pc/home.asp

We did blind tests of all the seats in the sense of not asking price, but sitting in the seats and judging comfort. We both soon arrived at the Flexsteel 597 seat as the most comfortable for us.

http://www.braddandhall.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=1113&idcategory=72

We opted for the power lumbar support, adjustable arm rests and Ultraleather in an ivory color (tan corduroy was not available). The cost in 2004 was $1,750 for the two seats.

I was shocked at the thought of paying that much for seats, but my usually cheap-skate wife with the excellent judgment urged the purchase. Susan paying her half sealed the deal for me.

The Flexsteel seats were a bolt-in. They fit the GMC adjustable seat brackets perfectly. We use color matching towels on the Ultraleather to protect the seats and prevent any sweating when driving in shorts in hot weather. We bought the Ultraleather because we thought it was beautiful, comfortable and durable.

I soon found that with the Flexsteel seats I could go eight hours and more without even thinking of my sitting comfort. Even twelve hours on long drives are comfortable. We spent 9 months of 2004 in our Eleganza II. Nine years later, the seats still look brand new.

I too thought I would use seats from some production vehicle that I could find in a salvage yard, but that didn't happen. The Flexsteel seats are so comfortable that I have considered using them in a touring car.

Many years ago I installed modern reclining '74 Alfa Romeo GTV seats in a '61 Alfa Sprint coupe with '50s construction seats and found that seats are half the comfort of a car. That is even more true for the GMC motorhome.

I'm sure there are several good seat solutions out there, but I just thought I would share our very satisfactory experience with the Flexsteel seats. Susan and Don Jeffers

Don,

Ed and Mary DeJong live about a mile and a half from me. Mary is one of my older sister's best friends. One of my first (first hand) exposures to the GMC Motorhome was their coach. In fact, I have seen the inside of your engine. I was up at Ed's house when he was building the Cad 500. I was wondering who now owned that coach. I asked Ed, the last time I saw him (several months ago) but he just replied "oh, you wouldn't know him". He either couldn't come up with your name or he was protecting your privacy.

Shortly after we bought our coach, Ed came over and looked it over. He had some good information and advice at the time. Unfortunately, Ed's health has suddenly taken a serious turn for the worse. I'm hoping he is still well enough to pay me another visit to see all the improvements and upgrades I have made since he last saw the coach. Your post reminded me to give him a call.

Thanks.

Hello Carl,

Ed did an excellent job of building the Cad 500 for the Eleganza. Time and miles have proven his work.

I still find evidence of his excellent work and preparation with detailed records and squirreled away spare parts. Many times have Susan and I said "Good old Ed!"

Ed has become our gold standard of the type of person we like to buy things from. He is an outstanding person in so many respects.

We are getting Mary's email updates. I last spoke with Ed about a month ago and had a very nice phone conversation with him. Ed and Mary are both in our thoughts and prayers.

Good to hear from someone that knows Ed.

Best regards,

Don and Susan Jeffers

They are beautiful seats, I sat in a Continental GT once and found them to be very comfortable.

If I were you, I would look into getting a couple of leather seats out of a 1995 on Range Rover. They have the fold down armrests, are also fully electrically height adjustable, and are heated.
They come in some nice colours, are hard wearing and are available used for quite a bit less than those Bentley seats.
I certainaly find the seats in my own Range Rover to be very comfortable.
