Here in California the plate and tags stay with the vehicle.
When you sell the vehicle you have to send in or go on line and report the sale to Ca DMV.
Save my butt years ago.
The buyer was involved in a hit and run
The cops called me from L A asking me for a description of the buyer.

When I asked how I should go about getting it home they said I'd have to transport it back. Lucky for us the previous owner left the tags on the car so I could drive it home.
