Messing with the roof pod realy stirred 'em up. You can see them buzzing me
before I realized I was under attack. You can also hear me hyperventilating
and trying not to panic.

I don't know if I can adequately put into words the sheer abject terror
that thin-waised swept-wing flying insects instill in me.

I was too terrified to be able to sweep up the organic soupy gunk in the
botttom of the pod whilst being buzzed by wasps. A good portion of that
crap in the pod is made of drowned wasp corpses.

The day ended in failure.

I applaud your stick-to-it-ivness, but if I was that phobic about wasps
I'd be paying someone to do this for me.

It's not the skinny-waisted ones you have to worry about - it's those
damn yellowjackets.

Good luck...

That's come phobia you have - are you allergic? That get-up looked like
it could have been a full NBC suit. You should have set off at least one
bomb inside before you left. Thanks for the entertainment!

1. I can't believe you made a 15 minute, 10 second video of this.

2. I can't believe I watched it.

3. Even funnier is that when I opened the front hatch yesterday to work on my air conditioner about 8 wasps flew out and kept buzzing around me while I hooked up my gauges. I was dressed in a short sleeve shirt and shorts. No protective helmet either!

I stopped and went in the house and returned with a can of Raid. That made short work of the critters. I looked under the top hinge area and found a golf ball sized nest. I pulled it out with a pair of pliers and tossed it on the ground. There were 4 wasps on it and it was full of larva. A good spraying of Raid took care of it.

Sorry you have your problem.

It was sort of comical to see you in your suit on top of the GMC and to hear you hyperventilating. Glad you didn't fall off the roof.

Why did you close the pod? The sun would have dried things out and wasps like dark places.

The bolts will be down in the channels at the bottom but from the looks if the pod you could probably just rip it off.

Don't release all 9 bombs in your GMC. You would have a hard time getting rid of the smell. One should do the trick.

Don't you have a friend or neighbor that could do this for you?

Good luck.

Thanks Emery! :) I closed the pod because it rains all the time. I might
give it a shot though.

I could never do what you did. I'm not scared of snakes or spiders or
heights or the dark.

I don't think I'll use all 9 cans... I should hold some in reserve. :)

Robin,

When researching what kind of bug bombs to use against the brown recluse spider (BRS) Raid Fumigator (three bombs in one box) was
noted here.

I double checked with Raid customer service and they confirmed that it would kill the BRS. One bomb was good for 2650 cubic feet so
one can will do the trick in your GMC.

http://www.raidkillsbugs.com/fop_fum.asp

I bought it at Wal Mart.

Robin, I watched part of your video on the great wasp interaction. What you
have from the video you produced is the plain old mud dauber wasps. If you
look at the nests in the video, you will notice that the larva have already
broken out from their enclosures and have flown the coop. These wasps will
buzz you, but rarely will sting. If you are as adverse to the critters as
you indicate in your video, enlist the help of either some of your less
skittish buddies, or the Orkin Man. You may have more than one type of wasp
present, and they like the roof top air conditioner covers to nest in as
well, so spray the crap out of them as well. Good Luck

Well, I know that the inhabited nest is paper wasps, and there's another
vacant paper wasp nest, both are under the hood. If I KNOW a mud dauber is
a mud dauber, I'm not quite as scared. But I rarely have that knowledge and
I don't see too well, which makes it even worse.

Robin - I wish I had you along to document some of the jams I get myself into. I'm working on my newspaper column right now, chronicling the 2nd summer trip.

I don't like stinging things either. Not sure I am quite as bad as you, but a paper wasp will bite the pee out of you.

There is a comedian on the radio that claims really to be afraid of bees. He says the only thing he hates worse is meter maids. "If only they were like bees - they write you a parking ticket and then die." Good stuff.

Rule one when you're allergic to crunchbugs - as I am. carry your Epi-Pen.
Go get one of the insectr fog bombs which has a locking spray nozzle. Strt it and tyoss it in the pod, close the top after it.
Tomorrow, go open the pod and get the grot out of it.
If the wasp nest is other than inside the pod, locate it and commit chemical warfare on the inhabitants. I use knockdown spray from a distance.

Messing with the roof pod realy
stirred 'em up. You can see them buzzing me

I don't know if I can adequately put into words the sheer

If you decide to bring them with you to Branson, I will go up and get rid of them for you.

I think your initial thought was right - wrap that thing and light off a bomb, or two. That will calm your nerves. Then get that beauty on the road.

FYI - my paint looked somewhat like yours - nearly white - but we took it to the local car wash and had it detailed. The Imron paint popped right back to 1976!

Good luck - I, too, wish I could help. Pesky stingers annoy me, but that’s about it.
