Has anyone ever wondered how much behind the scene help goes on because of this forum? Sure, we see a lot of help here cross our screens but how many email privately back and forth solving issues? Sometimes certain issues are just better dealt with privately between two or three folks. I get emails like that. Not that I am a mechanic but about solar and led stuff, travel in GMC in general. Always glad to respond. If you dont hear back from me then I did not get your note.
I personally have had an idling problem that has plagued me for a very long time. Done everything I could think of to fix it but just kept having it. Finally I decided this is rediculous and called on a member of this group, privately. Emery Stora. between me telling him my problem in such a way that he could understand, we fixed it yesterday, over the phone. My wife could tell that I was one happy camper when she came home from work and wanted to know why.
Many times I have called on Jim K. and others to help me with stuff and they are always willing to help me out. I was raised on a farm and learned how to keep tractors and trucks running but I am no mechanic. I can do brakes and hotrod my old 65 Mustang that I got in 1970, but some things just go beyond my abilities. Swapping out a vdub engine or installing disc brakes, I can follow instructions. But these little things that crop up sometimes on the GMC just blow me away.
We meet these folks at the conventions and find out just how nice and how willing to help they are. The first convention we went to I was scared to open my mouth because I knew that everyone would find out just how dumb I really was about a motorhome. Heck, I can now change a maserator in less than 10 minutes. I don't like big jobs so I pay Jim K. to take care of those. No swapping frontends or reaction arms for me. I have them both but did not install them myself. Chuck B. and Rob M. even worked on my intake problem at the last convention. Chuck B. installed the new steering column for us at another. I have been the recipient of much help. Even had Ken B. do my electronic ignition on the Onan, with lots of others helping, at a rally. Ken B. spent countless hours helping me with my a/c compressor, along with Blaine, M, who has let me use his lift twice at his home. Man, life is so good with all of these folks. I would not know any of them in person if I had not started attending the conventions and rallies. Any money that I have lost from missed wages has been returned to me many times over by GMC members.
So, come to Branson if you can. You won't find over one or two cranky owners there. And, they are probably cranky because I just mooched some help from them.
Thanks to everyone who has helped guys like me.
Dan

Proves 2 or more heads are better than one, and then you all get that feeling of accomplishment when the gremlin is defeated. Great bunch of folks all smart enough to understand what a unique gem the GMC was and still is as an escape machine on wheels.

You got it John. I still laugh about the time you slung mud everywhere with your coach at the Mich. convention. That was our first. Only missed one since. Who knows, might see you pulling another stunt. You should have borrowed Arch's tracker to push yourself out. Laughing

I just got in from work. Had to fire up the GMC just to hear it idle. Man, that is sweet. Tomorrow Teri and I will have a couple of grandsons out just riding through the countryside. They like it almost as much as grandpa. As many of you know, I don't take good running engines for granted. Life is great.

Dan,
What caused the bad idle? How did you and Emery solve it?

Long story, too long for here. The short, I found where I was sucking air.

Dan,
What caused the bad idle? How did you and Emery solve it?

Long story, too long for here. The short, I found where the throttle body was letting unwanted air slip in.
