How long do water pumps usually last? Mine was installed by the PO, so it's at least 5 years old, probably more like 7 or 8. Maybe I should buy one and put it on a shelf in my garage until this one quits.

Carl,
I really depends on the water quality that you put in the tank. In areas of the country where there is high mineral content and sand in the water it may last for a shorter life, other areas where the water is naturally soft it could last forever. They can also be damaged by freezing too. Carl the water in Tucson has a high carbonate and minerals content. The white powder thats left when water drys on the bath fixtures. I will be using a water softener this year when we are back in Tucson for the winter and I always use and filter on the inlet water to remove any sand and grit.

I picked up 3 at different garage sales for $5 -$10 each they looked pretty new. I needed a pump just as we were going on a trip one time I keep the spare next to the rear water tank just in case. I gave the other spare to a friend in need and he froze it the first time out I didn't offer the other spare.
