Cleaning up electrocs in Olga is a very interesting job. Pulled out miles of unnessesary wiring, like a feed from the rear house batteri to the engineheather. Why have this when there is this huge wire there already ?
There is no more isolater, but a very flimsy combiner ( that we call a splitter) that allows the engine to charge the house batteri, but does not allow my charger to load the engine batteri. I replaced the combinere with a victron cyrix itellegent combiner 120 amp. That allows charging both ways
Now i am just wondering about the breaker at the rear batteries This breaker is 60 amps. The engine gives 100 amps. My charges 70 amps
How can this ever (have)) worked. And should I replace it with a 120 amps as recommended by victron

The idea is that even with an 80 or 100 amp power source (alternator or converter), you will never pull all of the charging current to one battery. Some current will go to the house battery and some will go to the engine battery. Also some will be consumed by the 12 volt accessories. So 50 amps is fine for the circuit breaker. We really want that breaker to be as low as possible to protect from a possible short to ground and the possible resulting fire. If a short were to occur even at 50 amps that means as much as 700 watts of heat could be generated before the breaker would open up. That is a lot of heat.

The large gauge wire running from front of coach to rear battery is to allow the rear battery to be charged by the normal operation of the engine charging cycle. Removing it means the rear battery must be charged by a different method.
When the house battery is engaged by the boost switch, the high gauge wire carries the high amperage load to the starter.
