If your Onan shuts down hot, get a rag before you check the oil. The BF has the dipstick next to the exhaust manifold. In the sunlight, you cannot see that it has been heated near incandescence. When you pull on it, you will know.
The connected Story...
We had lunch in a huge discount mall at Birch Run. Then we moved the coach to go a couple of places of interest that were sort of tough walking distance in this heat. We had been sitting in the 98° heat and running the roof A/C. Stumble - Pop - Pop - Stop "OH XXXX" he says, believing that his otherwise faithful Onan has taken some grievous hit. A quick check found nothing leakng onto the ground, so the power drawer got drawered out to check the lube oil level (bad idea per above). After some ice and appropriate vocalizations, the inspection continued. The carburetor was a lot more then real hot. A push of the local start button gave one to believe that it wanted to run. A little longer cool down and it started. Well it ran pulled out until we were ready to get back on the highway. This is the first time I have vapor locked the APU.
