I found that the slightly shorter (61.5" x 7/16)belt works better, but
it's hard to put on.

I copied this from my notes.
I couldn't find it on Gene Fischer's web.
A/C Drive Belt
old(NAPA 25-15733); NBH 257612 (13/32” X 61.58”) ; PBH 15612 (3/8” x 61.625”)
GM (7/16"??? X62") 9433776
Gates 7619 or 7612 or 15615?
Dayco 15620 (15/32” X 62.0”)
Kragen 7612
Goodyear 15621 (should be ~ 11mm or 7/16”)

A forum search says:

Goodyear gatorback 15574 - Alternator
Goodyear gatorback 15621 - Air Conditioner

Don't shoot the messenger if they don't work.

I found that a Goodyear gatorback #15621 ((7/16" X61.5" ) fit the best for me on my 455 with original A6 compressor. I had no problem installing and it provided ample space such that the wire bundle that goes over the top of the compressor doesn't get pressed to the under side of the cockpit floor. This belt could be hard to find but you might get lucky with Ebay. I believe the Gatorback design provides better "gripping" such that you don't need as much belt tension which reduces the load on alternator and AC compressor bearings.
