I opened the freezer door to get that bucket of ice to take it into the
house, and the freezer compartment was really warm (almost hot) and the
ice had melted, the water had evaporated and the bucket was dry. I
opened the fridge door, and was rewarded with a strong ammonia odor.
Closed it quick!!!!!!

New fridge time.

Is a Norcold N641 the preferred replacement fridge for a 78 Eleganza??
Norcold says this is a replacement for my Norcold 663, but what do they
know? Is there a better one that fits easily? the 663 is a 3 way, but I
never use the DC.

Any suggestions on where to buy? I'll have to have it installed, can't
handle that critter.

Thanks,
RonC

Ron, the N641 is the direct replacement for your 663 Norcold. The sizes are exactly the same, so no modifications. I have found pricing from $950.00 (less then my cost) to $1350.00. You will have to either order new door panels or make up your own as the door sizing is different. To bad you are not closer as we could change out that cooling unit a little cheaper... PM me if you need any other info... Jim

I was looking for a Norcold N641 2 way a month ago; I found Big Discount RV
had the best price; $954 with free shipping. PPL had the fridge listed at
$948, but you had to pay shipping. JWID.

Ron, I installed a Norcold 641-3 two years ago. I replaced the original Electric Norcold. The new one was slightly taller (about 3/4" IIRC) and slightly narrower (about 1/2"). I use it on all three settings and we are VERY happy with it. I got mine through my local RV supply dealer, but I think Jim K. might have a source for them as well. I never thought of checking with him on it, but should have. I installed it per the sprcs with the proper baffles plus a solar powered fan in the upper vent. It works great under all conditions.
