This is the method I prefer. It leaves the OEM steel shell completely
clean and ready for installation of urethane bushings.

If you don't have a press like that, a little heat from a butane torch makes the bushing slide right out. Just when they start smoking a little, then the whole deal gets slippery.

Stinky tho, garage door should be open Smile

I took an old steel sleeve and ground down the OD. That's what I use to
push the inner sleeves out. Occasionally, it gets stuck, as in the video.
For that I just use an old deep socket and push the stuck sleeve out. I
tried to show the size of the socket for pushing the rubber out but guess
it is unreadable in the video. 1-3/16".
The press I use is a 20 ton Harbor Freight unit. I removed the hydraulic
jack that comes with it and replaced it with one that operates off air
(Harbor Freight). Their cheaper 10 ton unit will work but I usually do
several sets at a time and it's difficult to hold and align everything and
pump the jack at the same time. The air operated jack works much faster.

I don't have a set of uppers or I'd gladly make a movie about the quickest
way I know of to remove the OEM bushings using an air chisel. I came
across a set of lowers that someone had tried to remove the bushings from
by drilling holes in the rubber. This is not a very good practice for the
novice. The drill bit has a tendency to do what the rubber wants it to do
and in this case, the PO had severely gouged up the inner sleeve and also
tore up the inside of the steel shell........before giving up and using
them for cores.
