It is perfectly OK to drain the compressor even though the tag says not to. The tag is only for a dealer to make sure that the compressor is not stored on a shelf with no oil.
I would be very concerned to find out what kind of oil was in it. If it was synthetic (ester) oil then it would have to be flushed out before using the compressor in an R-12 system which has mineral oil.
You can use Durocol with either oil but the two oils are not compatible togeter.
I am sending some info to you from the Maintenance manual which tells how much oil to install.
