Gene, there used to be a couple of free dumps at Roadside Rest Areas. Alas,
they have become as rare as an honest political candidate. There are
several in the area that are free for registered guests of RV parks
including the Premier RV park just South of the Enchanted Forest Exit.
There are a couple of others that are $ 7.00 - $8.00.

According to my atlas there is a couple north of Vancouver on rt 5 near exit 11 and 14 and west on rt 84 by Memaloose state park near exit 69 and near exit 76. South on rt 5 by Grants Pass near exit 45A. None really very close to Salem though.

While we are on the subject...
Did you know that most Cabela's have a free dump?
If you have a doubt about the one you are approaching, check their website.
http://www.cabelas.com/stores/stores_home.jsp?WTz_l=Header
They (the dump) aren't always easy to find, but if you look, you can find it....

Problem - very few have potable water available.

Cabela's is now our preferred OED even to Wally's. It isn't any cheaper as they seem to be having a sale every time we hold up there.

Matt - hasn't made it to the PNW - Yet

Gene, you are thinking about the one that is North of Albany, and South of
Salem. It is right by the Santiam River Bridge. When they rebuilt the rest
area, they took out the dump station. I will look some more today for some
free ones.

There is a $5 dump station at Clackamette Park, where the Clackamas River meets the Willamette, on Hiwy 99E just north of Oregon City. If you're on I5 Northbound you have to take a slight detour up 205 to get to Oregon City. But 99E runs parallel to I5, just on the other side of the river. You can continue N on 99E and get back on I5-N at the Morrison Bridge in Portland.

But it's a beautiful park even if you don't need to dump.

For those interested there is an iOS app called Allstays that has all of the rest stops with and without dumps. It also has campgrounds, walmarts, truckstops, clearances, roadgrades and more. You can get the whole thing or just parts depending on what you need and how cheap you are. I find it pretty handy.

I haven't used it, but I just checked and it's also available, in several
versions, including a free one for military campgrounds, at Google Play.

Allstays may have improved some, but when I compared the available information to what I could get free from the Discovery owner's site, it wasn't worth the cost. It is just as easy for me to use the internet sites (including allstays), since I do all the planning that I do on the laptop anyway.

I agree that you would probably not use Allstays for planning out a trip, but I do tend to make some unplanned detours looking for interesting sites to see. I never bring a laptop, but I always have my iPad. I have several free and 99 cent camping apps and Allstays is the best of the bunch. It really does contains quite a bit if information.
Last week it helped me find a great spot in a small town park in VT that I didnt plan on. It gives the phone number in the app and can link right to the website if they have one. For all of the money I piss away on other useless things, I don't really miss the 10 bucks. It's also nice because it's always up to date.

According to my atlas there is a couple north of Vancouver on rt 5 near exit 11 and 14 and west on rt 84 by Memaloose state park near exit 69 and near exit 76. South on rt 5 by Grants Pass near exit 45A. None really very close to Salem though.

For a "free" dump site closer to Salem, Spirit Mountain Casino (Grand Ronde, Oregon), has one. It is located at the back of the "free" RV parking lot. (Free dry camping on a paved lot set aside just for that.) You might need to sign up (free) for the "coyote club" to get access but it is "officially" free. But however, stopping anywhere near a casino with my wife, doesn't turn out to be "free." Rolling Eyes
