I took apart my Onan Carb last night, and found something interesting.
In the bottom of the boul, rolling around was a 1/4 steel ball bearing.
I looked at all the manuals and don't see a ball bearing anywhere.
Should it be there, and where does it go?

Perplexed

Could it belong in a fuel pump upstream?

Phil,

While I don't have an NH carburetor to look at, I would not be surprised if that was a passage plug that fell out. So, look for a drilled hole in the float chamber where it might fit. It could well be your entire problem. I usually set them back in with red locite or epoxy.

This is a pretty common practice and a good use for bearing balls that end up undersize (cheap).

I don't believe it came in with the fuel as the needle and seat would never let it pass.

I don't see anywhere where this would go. unless it goes in the Nozzle, and the Bowl Retainers keeps it in

Phil,
I found one in mine also, years ago, I took it out and have never had any problems. My Onan runs like a top. I assumed it was not OEM as I couldn't find it listed in the Onan parts manual. Hopefully someone here knows if it should be there or not. I may just be lucky.

Crazy thought. Could it be like a rattle paint can BB to try to mix up the water settled out so it will be burned off ? They do run with some vibration and now 2 have reported this ball in the bowl.

Guys, the small bearing rattling around in your carb bowls used to seal the drill hole on the bottom side of the throttle shaft in the main carb body. It is in your bowls now because it has worked itself loose from the main casting.

Matt Colie mentioned this early on in this thread and he was 100% correct.
