Got this through my employer.

Below is a recall notice for LP tanks that are typically used in barbecue grills and potentially forklifts. These tanks are up to 25 lb cylinders that were available for purchase at common outlets such as Sears, Home Depot, or Lowes. If you have any of these cylinders, you will wish to immediately cease use of the cylinder and contact the supplier. The link below provides pictures of the cylinders and instructions.

They are composite cylinders. Employees will wish to look for a fiberglass tank with a metal outer holder. These cylinders have not been recalled yet by the Consumer Product Safety Commission when I searched.

Fella's;

Here is some more info on the Lite composite LP tanks;

Subject: Emergency Recall Order

Please be advised that The Lite Cylinder Company is no longer in business and is currently evaluating its legal options. The company’s facility is now closed and unable to receive cylinders returned per the instructions detailed in US DOT – PHMSA Emergency Order No. 2013-002. Furthermore, the company is financially insolvent and will not be able to recompense cylinder owners, dealers and distributors for the expenses incurred in complying with this Emergency Recall Order.

My LP distributor is replacing the cylinders that he sold with steel units, direct trade. He said that he had sold about 300 units over the last few years.

The company as Bob said is basically out of business. The company had been sold last year and the new owners were trying to get all the paperwork up to date to reopen the plant to produce new cyclinders. It was discovered that the original company had fudged the test results on the fiberglass units. The specifications for approval called for the tanks to be pressure tested to 480 psi and they were tested only to 440 psi. This probably is not a real problem as the safety valves relieve at 270 psi on the production units. So everything is a mess for the new owners and they will probably go into bankrupt court. The recall order includes all fiberglass tanks made my the Lite
Cyclinder Company.

The recall does not effect the Ragasco tanks, which are also composite LP tanks. You can view the Ragasco web site here;

Maybe I've been living under a stump, but I've never seen a composit tank before this thread started. Must be a northern thing.Smile
