What is the correct size of the American Eagle lug nuts? Helping Robin tomorrow and I want to bring the correct socket for the impact driver for installation of the wheels.

Thanks, Tom! But I don't think the Eagles are gonna be here until late
Wednesday. :( They're on a truck somewhere between Dallas and here,
according to UPS. Might make it into Jackson this afternoon, but prolly
won't be on a truck for delivery till tomorrow I bet.

Also, don't I really need to service my brakes, first, before i put my
wheels back on?

Although, in the case of the Royale, it had fairly good brakes when parked
after driving it home 150 miles. Where "good" means "I didn't die." With
some fresh gas and a new battery, she might be good to go as soon as she
has wheels. I'd still like to drape them both in plastic and load them up
with bug fogger bombs. I ain't takin' no chances with wasps.

We just bought American Aluminum wheels and stainless steel lug nuts from JimK early this year. The stainless steel lug nuts take a 1 inch socket. Not sure about the chrome lug nuts. Jim said to tighten them at 125 lb torque. Don't forget the washers go between the lug nuts and the center caps.

The "cheap" chrome lugnuts also use 1 inch socket.

While I did use the washers, I did not like the look of the cheap "tin" plate part of the center cap and left them off. Even with the slightly older style with the casting marks, I think they look better sans caps. Plus it is easier to check bearing temperatures.

I understand the current batch of "Jim's" Eagles do not have the casting marks. So even more reason to leave the caps off.

Note: If you have non-hub centered eagle wheels, the hubcaps will fit BEHIND the wheel, sticking through the center hole, making them look NICE. IMHO this is the ONLY way to install the caps... if you have non-hub centered Eagle wheels.

I think we asked Jim about putting the center caps behind the wheels and he said don't but I can't remember why. Maybe he'll read this thread and comment. We got the stainless center caps so everything is stainless except the wheels. However, one of our concerns now is galling or cold welding of the lug nuts to the other components so we're thinking of loosening the lug nuts or removing the wheels when we put the coach in the barn for the winter. We also have been using Tef-Gel anti corrosive lubricant wherever we use stainless screws, nuts or bolts but we're not sure if we should use it on the lug nuts. We've been told not to use grease or any other substance on lug nuts. We haven't put the wheels on the coach yet as we're still working to get it on the road. FWIW.

If your wheels are the HUB CENTERED ones that Jim had manufactured, (like the round holed ones on my '78) the caps will not fit behind the wheels.

Also, the stainless steel caps will not go behind the non hub centered wheels. I have the original eagle caps behind the wheels because I like the look better.

I think we do have the HUB CENTERED ones that Jim had manufactured. We put Michelin LT225/75R16E1 115R B LTX M/S2 on the rims and weaselled our way into what we thought was a pretty good price on them at Discount Tire. We didn't want to spend more than necessary for long tread life as we won't wear the treads out before they age out but we felt good tires were a great hedge against problems on the road. We haven't put the wheels and tires on yet. We are anxious to take her out on a short outing.
