I have what appears to be an all too common problem. My cockpit plastics are shattering.

What I figured to do was to take them out and then fiberglass the insides with a layer or two of FG cloth and/or mat. After that I would be more comfortable adding padding and upholstery over them.

Anyway, they are not screwed to the plywood floor. I tried applying some pressure to lift them out of the hatch openings where they appear hooked in, but if I apply any more pressure, I am afraid I will end up with a jigsaw puzzle of plastic parts.

I did go to Frank Jenkin's site and it looks like he carries the dash pieces, but I didn't see the side pieces.

Any thoughts on a delicate removal of these plastic interior items?

Not sure which pieces you are talking about, I just removed my side covers under the cockpit windows. Removed the screws in
the floor and thought they would pop out.. But found there are 2 screws each side between the dash and the curve of the windshield. After removing the screws they lifted right out.

I too have to do some repairs on them but I can save them.

Good luck!

I believe the cockpit pieces are made of ABS.

My '73 had several screws attaching the side panels to the floor. Several more were hidden in the channel below the windshield and side window. But there are two connecting the side panels to the dash. They are tricky. Mine were "backwards" in that I had to reach beyond them with a stubby screwdriver in order to remove them. Attached is a pix taken through the glove compartment opening.

There is also a flange extending rearward from the cockpit side panels extending about an inch under the side panels of the living area. You can either remove the living area sidewalls or, as I chose to do, cut the flanges off with a cutoff wheel in a Dremel tool.

Does anyone know if Frank Jenkins is still selling his parts?

I advised him I wanted some and after some initial contact, he went quiet.

Frank's got em'. He brought me the driver's side piece (as shown in the photograph in this thread) to bean station.
