I am buying new tires for the front wheels. PO was running Load range "E" 16" on Alcoa Rims. I was just told by a tire dealer that I need 12 ply, Load range "F" for an 11,460 gross weight vehicle. No other dealer has told me this and the one that did does not carry load range "F" tires.
My weigh station ticket shows 7740 lbs front and 3720 lbs rear.
I assume E range is OK due to the tandem rear axle (?) Or did I just get bad information. (the manual states LR "D")
Thanks and happy trails !

D was stock. We have all pretty much gone to E as cost upside is minimal. F is a rare bird to me. Technically to get the E load capacity you would have to run 80 PSI. D maxes at 65. But over 65 is too high for the vehicle ride and harshness. Buy E's and you won't be hunting dinosaur teeth if you need a replacement. Most happy stories here are for Commercial TA and Michelin LTX M/S (now M/S 2)

It sounds like your weigh ticket has the vehicle ends swapped.

I run load range E tires but my Eagle rims are stamped "Max Pressure 60 Lbs". I usually only inflate to 60-62 to stay within that limit so I'm not really taking advantage of the E range tires. For the minimal difference in cost, though, I'll probably stick with the E's.

Your weight ticket is definitely reversed. Technically, load range D tires will handle the weight, but they are uncommon. Load range E are very common and probably not any more expensive. My understanding of the 60 psi limit on the Eagle Rims is that that is a not to exceed pressure for mounting the tires and seating the bead. I was told that the rims will handle much more pressure after the beads are seated. I run my 225/75R16 LR-E tires at 65 psi on the rear Eagle wheels with very satisfactory results.

I'm pretty sure that is the max for seating the tire beads to the rim. Once the beads are set inflate to DOT specs for your weight. Most will find that 60-65# is comfortably above spec. If that's the case then load range D's would work just fine. I run E's because as it was noted earlier they are easier to find.
