Okay, so my wife tells me that the travel Channel is running a contest to
audition one's RV for the TV show.

I like to think I'm pretty handy with a video camera and editing. I've been
told that I have a fairly good sense of comedic timing. I might be able to
make a good case for one of my coaches.

On the other hand, I find it a bit of a stretch to say that very many RV
owners would be "deserving". I mean, I don't have very much money at all,
but I have enough where I'm able to play with restoring these things...
Even though I'm currently running into trouble with my storage lot and I
don't actually have enough money to do some of the things that need to be
done right now, I will have it at some point in the future. The first two
owners featured on the show were a family who appeared to be doing fairly
well for themselves, and a small business that seems to be fairly
successful. These were hundred thousand dollar coaches that were being
restored.

For that reason part of me doesn't really feel worthy, I'm an attorney, I
have a federal job. What business do I have asking for help from these
folks? Furthermore would it make good television?

My wife is a Veteran. She's 100% service connected, and I don't want to go
it any further into it than that. I'd like to be able to take her places
and have fun using the coach.

Anyway, I am going to put together a script and some of my old video
footage and shoot some new stuff and give it a try. I am open to
suggestions or comments or whatever. The GMC community has been a enormous
help so far.

I did during the opening montage some scenes involving a GMC. So, I know
they've worked on them before.

GO FOR IT!

This is entertainment and "deserving" has very little to do with it. I, for one, would pay money to watch the Barn Queen come to life. Maybe the connection with the fellow from Car and Driver (was it David E. Davis?) might help. That coach has celebrity roots. I'm curious to know if he ever modified the drivetrain, as Car and Driver was want to do in the day.

If not you how about the Great Possum Run?

Deserving, maybe? What of the lady raising her kids in Nevada (or ws it Arizona?)

Deserving? How about the cobbler whose kids have no shoes? Jim K's rig is plenty potent, but not at all glamorous. We could take up a petition to pimp that rig! The show could take a video tour of Sharon and Jerry's beauty, any one of the coaches that wear Byron's graphics, and the over the top stuff Jim B has done as background. The cigar lounge and an old air porter rig. How about footage of the Stripes EM50.

Heck - we've done the show for them!

Robin,
Start out by saying that anything outside legal issues, you are not
qualified to fix or modify the coach so you need them to get you out of a
hot spot as you convinced your wife that your more than a litigator and you
can remodel the coach.

Does anybody know who's GMC is in the show trailer? It looks like it will be in one of the pilot shows as it shows him kicking out the drivers side big window.

Give it a try. I'm thinking that if they've done one GMC, they'd not do another though...

I don't know who the owner of the G M C is.
Why is it necessary to have someone jumping up and down on these TV shows.

All is well with my Lord

Great question -- I would much prefer to see an RV remodel with folks like Tom Silva and Norm Abrham from This Old House.

Well, as knowledgable as Tom and Norm are about

stick, nail, and brick house construction, I

suspect they woudn't know the difference between

their butts and their chins about working with RVs.

Stick the two Jims and/or some others of note with

deep knowledge of RVs on the show and that would

be entertaining (to us, anyway).

Just bought my sixth GMC and it's a project.  Have for sale newly
reupholstered flexsteel bench seats in blue vinyl for $60 if you come
and get them.  Also have front seats in same blue vinyl and the vacuum cleaner that fits in the closet - anyone
interested?

Dennis,

That's because you're NOT the demographic that the "star" (what's his face) appeals to or who the producers / sponsors are
targeting.

Rob is probably correct. The sort of people to watch the travel Channel are
the sort of people who can afford to travel. They probably don't pull their
own wrenches and aren't as interested in fixing things up. The show that
Dennis is describing is probably overhauling or fast and loud. :-) I
believe there's some similar TV shows about houses where they take
basketcases and fix them up.

Somebody needs to camp out at Jim B's shop with the camera and put together
a real gMC reality show. :)

The GMC in the trailer is a 1973 or 1974 (multi-part window frames) so the kicking out the window isn't much of a loss.

Looks like the first show "Rolling VIP Lounge" is up and can be viewed on line. I noticed a shot of what looks like the GMC owners. I grabbed a screen shot of them:

I have watched the first show (yet). But the thing about letting them "Rock Your RV" is that would your trust them? Could you live with the result? Do you need too? Robin could take the chance and let them do one. If it isn't to his (and the better half's) taste, he has another. Twisted Evil

I don't know who the owner of the G M C is.
Why is it necessary to have someone jumping up and down on these TV shows.

All is well with my Lord

That was close to what Arch did, but it was more of a blog back in the time before blogs.

I'm trying to figure out who the coach belongs to myself.  We delivered the 1973 Cabana, Dodge chassis coach for one of their episodes I think for season 2.  Talked to the owners and June 5 is their unveiling, though it's certainly NOT a GMC it will be interesting to see what they do to it.  We did the mechanicals and drove it cross country to deliver it to the set in Resida.

You are right, the things they are doing to the coaches may not be your "cup of tea" but what the goal should be is to expose the idea that there is value in rehabing an older RV.  This may drag many people into the community that otherwise did not want to put out a mortgage to get something new.  There is no real "used" RV community out there, no real excitement and that's what I hope this show accomplishes.  We're long past due having the next generation of RV enthusiasts understand there are options to spending stupid money for poor workmanship.

Doh! I was going off what my wonderful wife was telling me... I just looked
for myself, and the contest is to enter for a chance to win a particular
rig that the show has tricked out, not a contest to audition your own
vehicle for the show. Oh well. :)
