I have been away from the GMC forum for a while, since I sold my 1975 Avion a few (?) years ago. At the time a 23' GMC seemed to fit my circumstances better than a 26'.
I am happy to report that it is 2330 CA time and I just returned home to the Sacramento area in my 1975 rear bath Birch that I drove up from Fresno! I am one happy puppy!
In California, vehicles made in 1975 or prior are exempt from the smog check requirement. I got my 23 footer, I don't have to smog it and I can do whatever I want to the engine without the state getting involved. Mission accomplished!
I am so glad to be back!
I'll upload some pics when I figure out how.

Welcome back Guy.
I'd like to see pictures of a 1975 Birchaven. It would be one of the first ones made and fairly rare. To explain, (from memory) there were only (36) 23 foot coaches made in 1975, about 10 to 15 were upfitted by Avion some by Midas/Norris and a few other upfitters. That doesn't leave many for Coachman to upfit as Birchavens. They really didn't get started until 1976...
One of the features I am thinking you might have are a real "pocket" door to the bathroom. I'd also like to see how they wired the 12 volt system under the refrigerator.
Anyway, here is the picture site:
