I haven't dug up details of how the switch pitch Toro transmission works.

I was wondering exactly how are the switch pitching vanes actuated?
Could this actuator be used to actuate a torque converter clutch in a modern torque converter?

Just a thought!

I talked with Manny T. about switch pitch, locking torque converters, and
4 speed TM 425 this week end at Jackson Ca. at a 49ers rally. Stay tuned.
There is "STUFF" in the works. A little early for roll out announcements
yet. Sounds like great projects. Drove 1184 miles round trip for a week end
rally. Judy and I had a blast, in spite of some vapor lock problems and
very severe cross winds and later head winds. So strong that I almost had
to shift down a gear at times just to keep up. As soon as I got to Oregon,
I found a Valero station in Ashland that had 92 octane ALCOHOL FREE GAS.
After about 5 or 10 miles, the vapor lock subsided and we went home
through the Medford, Grants Pass, and Roseburg areas in 80 degree temps
with no ill effects. Not ready to lay All the blame on California Alcohol
blended fuel Yet, but once I switched to Alcohol FREE fuel in Ashland, I
ran the rest of the way to my home in Salem and both tanks are still half
full. Noticed much better fuel economy in Canada as well. Don't much like
the price of the stuff though.

The price around here is all over the place.  Locally, getting ready to head for STL a month ago, $4.25.  Coming back a week later in Tennessee just W of Chattanooga, $3.21.  87 octane with alcohol over the same period had dropped about 14 cents.  Go figure.
