I can not believe how much trouble I have with these things. Cotton picking maserator is leaking. Water is coming from where the back cover attaches to the main unit, about in the middle of the unit. Saw a drip so I tightened up the two bolts going through it. Put 3 gallons of water in the tank and it is leaking this morning still. I guess this is why I have 2 spares and 2 for parts. At least I made it so it is fast to swap. Looks like my electric gate would hold it in the tank, but that ain't happening either.
Oh well, will drop the Jabsco this weekend and see it the gasket is bad or the thing is cracked.

Dan,
Several questions:
1. Are you SURE the maserator was completely drained of 'fluids' before the freezing weather set in last year?
2. What are you and Teri eating that would produce such caustic by-products that are able to repeatedly damage maserator parts?
I put a Jabsco maserator on my GMC in 2007, have pumped loads of sh*t through it since, and it still works fine. Last year I bought a new impeller figuring the old one might wear out someday but it's still sitting on the shelf.
You've got to be doing something I'm not. I don't have an answer as to why you are going through so many poo pumps, let us know what you find so I can have the necessary spares on hand for the day when mine takes a leak.

I read somewhere, Dan, that mascerators are lactose intolerant and eating
ice cream is a no-no.

Steve, that must be it. Can't figure out why my "newish" electric gate is not sutting off the flow though. It is right at the opening of the tank into the 3 inch drain. I keep it closed all of the time. Must have something there blocking it or the rubber seal is not good. And, the maserator may have leaked longer but the gate was holding everything back, until recently. Oh well, got to have something to do.

I'm not putting one on my new rig. Not worth the effort or the trouble. Takes too long to drain and a bitch to flush.

There was one in the stuff Jimmie's widow gave us, so I kept it. It has a twistlok on the input, so it will fit onto the drain pipe on the coach. My idea is a 12V outlet for it, and just hook it on for draining and then put it away and shut the valve on the tank. Best of both worlds.

Mine simply won't come on. I'm going to try and put a test meter on it later today. The end screw turns relatively easily and (I think) I hear a click when the switch is thrown.
Sure would be nice if it just needed a clean ground.
I don't have the standard 3" hose but I'll have to get one if this doesn't work. I have not drained the tanks since I bought in March but I do have an extra capacity gray (I think) tank added by my PO.
Oh, if I just had a Thermasan.

If you hear a click, it is most likely getting 12V, but possibly fried. Dan is Right, they draw A LOT of current. You wouldn't get any noise out of it if there was no power. perhaps it has an on board circuit breaker? Mine did not.
The only way I would consider one again is the twist on type. At least you can flush it out from both ends if it is one of those. My coach Macerator never fully gets flushed out. and what is left, sloooooooowly drips out so I have to put a cap on the end of th hose.

Question
I keep my tank gate open all the time.
That's how macerators are installed on boats.
Maybe be the problem folks are having by closing the gate valve ?
Never a drip.
Yes they do take a lot of juice to run.
Thinking of running a wire direct from the battery to the poop grinder and
installing a relay.
Just a thought.

Chris, I would never want a twist on type. Might as well use the 3 inch hole. What I have is both. The pump sits off to the side of the main 3 inch pipe, which can still be used. I have used it when the maserator was boogered and I did not have time to fix it, but only once. Having to get one out and twist it on take the simplicity out of the invention. I like being able to pull the 3/4" hose out, stick in hole, and flip the switch. 3 minutes for a full tank. But, I realize we are all different. I am lazy and do not like using gloves.
Mine is wired straight to the inside 12v fuse panel with switch in the electric box. I carry a 10 ft. extension of 1/2" hose. Used that a couple of times.

I'm with you, Dan. I can't imagine ever having to fool with anything more
than the little hose and the switch again. Not only will I never go back
to having to "walk" the debris through a lifted 3" hose to reach a high
fitting or to get the last remnants out, but I'll never again (except in a
failure emergency) wash out another 3" hose and wrestle it into a storage
container. Never again!
As for a twist on -- I agree about the inconvenience, and more than that
would be continuously worried about the mounting lugs breaking off
mid-dump, with the obvious stinky results. Been there, done that:
When we had the big SOB, before I learned of electric macerators, there
came on the market a water-powered one. A water hose and nozzle
arrangement connected to a 3" dump adapter provided the force for breaking
down the effluent. It really worked very well. Until THAT day: I'd just
pulled the T-handle to dump 50 gallons of black water, located 3' above the
ground, when the adapter came off of the coach. Yep, it was a MESS. I was
able to reach the handle and stop the flow after only 5-10 gallons,
probably, but that was TOO much!
The mounting lugs on the adapter had broken off. It turned out that the
manufacturer almost went bankrupt trying to solve the persistent problem
until they learned that the lubricant on the rubber seal was weakening
every plastic they tried for molding the adapter. I got a new one, which I
still have available CHEEP after 10 years or so.
Fortunately, that catastrophe occured while I was parked at the farm, on
sandy soil, had just bought, for another purpose, several gallons of
Chlorox, and after my hasty cleanup, we had a 3" thunderstorm. No one was
seriously inconvenienced -- THAT time.

Dan, I installed one of those ele gate valves on my GMC and it never
tolerated being closed for long periods of time. After my third time under
the coach opening it manually, I decided that from that point on, I'd trust
the mascerator to never leak by and left the ele gate valve open. I sold
the coach with those instructions to the new owner.
