What do you guys use to clean your engine top and underneath? I have been using Simple Green forever. It is great on oil and/or grease. I spray it on, let sit for a couple of minutes, and hose it off, with water. Repeat as needed. Really good under the coach getting the trans fluid or engine oil off that collects dirt and grime. Neither my engine or tranny leak now but have in the past. I do have a small leak in the power steering pump. Runs down the hose and wind blows it back. I keep it cleaned off with Simple Green.
Just curious as to what others are using. A half gallon jug of this runs between 7 and 10 bux. Best price I find is Sam's Club. Will not take paint off like brake cleaner and washes off the driveway with water.

Dan,

Simple Green and also Go JO hand cleaner. Take a gob of hand cleaner and attack a particularly difficult to clean area -- use a small brush as required -- and then rinse with water.

I use the GO JO on some parts that I have removed as well -- works better than many of the cleaners, smells good and cleans up well.

I has learnt again.  I have been bemoaning the loss of Gunk (due I suspect to EPA horror) as a crud remover.  I'll get a bottle of Simple Green and give it a try.

POR-15 make a product called "Marine Clean" - I've found this works extremely well on greasy areas.

Dan,
Since you have the see through engine hatch try using No Touch Tire Care after you clean the engine area. I spray it on hoses, wires and most every thing else. It makes the area look new. I guess any tire spray would work but I like the No Touch.

I too prefer Simple Green. I buy the concentrate and dilute it 50/50 with water. It works well on most everything, and does not damage paint or polished metal. I like the hand cleaner idea and will employ it on really dirty built up grease. I used to like Gunk Engine Bright, but always hated the residual smell. I ran across a guy at a car show who was showing an immaculate Plymouth Lancer. Not a pretty car, but it was clean! I asked him what he used and he said "Simple Green". I tried it and I liked it!

Another product that works well on really nasty grease, oil, etc, is Castrol Super Clean, or a similar purple cleaner. But DON'T use it on polished aluminum, and avoid using it on painted surfaces. It will strip wax, and dull polished metals, but is great for cleaning up the concrete driveway, or metal parts that you want to paint. It is also really hard on the skin and will leave your hands dry and peeling if exposed to it for too long. Wearing latex or rubber gloves is a good idea when using this stuff.
