8 years ago, I put on 6 new 16 inch steel wheels with 245 75 R 16 tires. With Wheel Master SS covers. The steel wheels fit a 73 Chivy 1 ton with duels. I made three mistakes at that time. 1 Never should have put 245 tires on. That size of tire was way to close to the body of the coach. 2 This tire size reduced my revs per mile. Thus taking away part of the advantages of putting the 3.70 final drive in, to start with. 3 Too aggressive of a tread. Thus lots of road noise.
Today I found two tires that claim to be quiet running. The tires are 225 75 R 16's. Load range E Both made in the USA. This USA thing is vary important to ME.1 E Dunlop Rover H/T BSL TL $162.252 Kelly Safari ATR BW E $176.00I bought 12 new rims from Jim K. today. So the 12 tires, and rims are going on both the 78 Royale's.Also got two sets of Quad bags to do both coaches.Bob Dunahugh

Is the 225 75 R 16 about the most common tire used now?

I'm happy with the Coopers.  U.S. made, $150 per mounted and balanced.  They're quieter than the 16.5 Firestones.

LT225/75 R 16. are as close as you can get to the OEM 16.5 diameter. Leaves the speedometer error problem alone.
I would expect any tire rated "M&S" as noisier than a highway pattern. Too many other noises to worry about road noise. LOL.

Not a long history with these coaches, but I just put Michelin LTX M&S 2s to replace Firestone Transforce, and took the first day trip of the season last Saturday. Have to say that the Michelins are not just quieter, they are downright quiet. I read nearly every post on tires here, and concluded that it was either spend the $$ for the Michelins and never wonder if I shortchanged myself, or buy the Coopers, save the $$, and wonder if I could have got a better ride.

Thomas,
The 225/75 R 16 tire is the replacement size tire for the 8.75/16.5 tire that originally came with the coach. Here is a chart that shows the differences between the various tire sizes and final drive ratios. This chart is also available from GMCES for download.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/final-drive-ration-tire-size-chart/p3373.html
or
http://www.gmceast.com/technical/Brown_Drive_Tire_Ratios.pdf

The error between these 2 tire sizes is about .003% using the manufactures listed circumference and Rvs/Mile. Actual tire circumference will vary slightly between manufacture. There is no noticeable speedometer error between these 2 tire sizes. The error occurs when you jump up to a 235 or 245 tire and alters the final drive ratio.

The Buskirk stretch that we have now used to have 245 tire all the way around. We have a 3.21 final with a 3.50 chain drive which would produce a 3.66 final ration with a 225 tire, but with the 245 tire is dropped it back to a 3.50 ratio. I suspect that he chose the tire size because the coach is heavier than a standard 26' coach. We had the coach weighed at Dothan and the axle weighs and front to rear balance are still within the load capacity of a 225 tire. I had switch the front tires back to a 225 size tire returning the ration back to 3.66 when we got the coach in 2011. You need to be careful on tire size as it will affect your final drive ratio. The 3.7 final from Jim K has been shown to produce the best performance for the coach and Jim has the data. We ran a 3.55 in our other coach and was very happy with it because we didn't run in mountains that often as we live in the Midwest, but did notice the difference when we went to Tucson. The 3.66 ratio worked well
in the Southwest and Arizona area.
