I was getting discouraged by quotes for an Agreed Value policy on my '78 Eleganza,...
for Progressive (via an out-of-state agency referral from a fellow GMC owner)
for the '78 with $60k Agreed Value (here in S.Cal), $1509 annually (sticker shock!)

To make matters worse, i just found out i'd have to convert the '76 Birchhaven as Agreed Value as well
(due to recent salvage title, my GMAC agent would no longer give the coach ANY comprehensive coverage)...
So... kept searching...
I called Nationwide (via a referral to a local agent),
and for BOTH the '78 at $60k AND the '76 at $12k.... only $912 total, annually!!
How can there be such a wide variance between Progressive and Nationwide??
Is this just due to the local agency situation? I gave them all the same specs, same $500 deductible...
So... Can you say No Brainer???
Unless anybody has any horror stories or caveats to report about Nationwide,
i think i'll get the ball rolling...!
and I hope this info might help anybody else looking for fairly-priced Agreed Value coverage in S.Cal...
cheers,
Greg

Our '74 Eleganza SE is agreed at $49K and we are paying $621.80 q year as of 05/10/2013. We are in California and this is through Progressive.

When I called Progressive a couple of years ago, they said they did not do Agreed Value. They suggested I contact Hi Sage Insurance of San Diego. They signed me up very quickly and when the policy came it was insured by Progressive. Go figure.

You better have an Independent Appraisel as sooner or later you'll need to
show it.
I have been contacted by insurance co. to verify many times.
One person made one up using our name.

Jim,

I just signed up with Progressive through USAA and they did an Agreed Value Policy using the appraisal that JimB did back in 2009. I
need to have another one done as it's too low. Last year they wanted to see a copy of the appraisal this year they said they didn't
need it unless I had an accident. I sent a copy to them anyway just in case the agent I was speaking to was wrong - JUST IN CASE!

Thanks for the laugh!

Regards,
Rob M.

Yes. JimK did ours. At first blush it would seem that they should insure for whatever you are willing to pay. But I think they want to make sure the coach is really there and worth something. Sad, but too many would take out a policy on a beater, or a picture of some coach they saw and then claim it stolen.

OK, bad news about Nationwide (and i can't believe how much time has gone into this search so far)...
I sent them the coach's appraisal, today, ready to write the policy,
and THEN we find that the underwriter would NOT write coverage...
and they say its based on the age of the vehicle...(?)
(Well, the agent knew the age of the vehicle right from the start.... So big waste of phone time!)

They would have to write it as an antique, but you can't get antique coverage for anything that's been
customized, to begin with...

> When I called Progressive a couple of years ago, they said they did not do Agreed Value. They suggested I contact Hi Sage Insurance of San Diego. They signed me up very quickly and when the policy came it was insured by Progressive. Go figure

Thanks George, I called Hi Sage today, and at first they said "No"... but then i pressed the issue, mentioned your referral, and they looked it up; and they're calling me back on Monday.. So we'll see ;) thanks...

Rob, Could you tell me which USAA agency did your policy, in case Hi Sage denies me?
(One other agency that works through Progressive no longer does Agreed, so i'm not taking anything to the bank
until i have policy in hand!)

In other news, i finally received and cashed the final payment check TODAY, from the insurance battle that started way back in June, when the Birchhaven got totalled... Funny how it all goes around...
OK, Thanks all!
Greg

AFAIK, USAA does NOT use/have agents. All is done through their membership reps by phone or Internet.

I have Progressive "agreed value" of 10k THROUGH my USAA membership. My 30' travel trailer is ACV directly with USAA.

G'day,

When I called USAA in March to insure my VW towd they took all the details and wrote the policy.

When I called USAA last month to insure the GMC I was told that they no longer write RV insurance and passed me to Progressive. The
lady I spoke to at Progressive had to check and see if she could write an agreed value policy for my GMC. They did and I set it at
$30,746 which is what the appraisal that JimB did on the coach in 2009 noted. I asked if I needed to send in the appraisal (I did
last year) and once again she had to check. When she came back on the line she said no, just to hold on to it until I had and
accident. I received some documents from Progressive I had to sign and decided to send in a copy of the appraisal anyway.

The number I called was: 1-800-531-8722

Regards,
Rob M.
