All,

Where is the best place to locate a rear view camera? The system I have is "wired" and with the coach wide open I can locate the camera in the best place.
The system will take a 2nd camera, is this worth it? and where should it be?
Looking forward to your responses.

I put mine on the spare tire. It's right in the center so it give a fairly accurate view. I have the monitor that hangs on the rear view mirror. Works pretty good...

Peter, I have mine in center on roof, just above the rear window. Works great and gets less "spray" in the rain than if I had it lower. My first one I mounted inside the window but it had a glare on the lense a lot of the time. With everything inside out you will have a good easy time of it. I ran my cables along the driver's side behind the cabinets.

Mine is about 10 inches below the center clearance light or an inch up from
the crease in the rear cap. Some guys use the second camera just below the
rear window to get a view of the toad. I often thought it would be neat to
have a second camera mounted under the front cross member.

If you intend to tow something, put a second camera on it. If it's
detachable, you could also mount it focused on the trailer hitch when you
are trying to get hooked up.

Peter,
Mine is in the same place as Dan's. Works perfectly. I drilled a small hole for the cable at an up angle just above the glass.

Mine is a Sanyo that displays on-screen lines delineating the width as well as 2,4 and 8 foot distances behind the coach. I need all the help I can get.

Were I to install a second camera it would probably go over the passenger side mirror looking forward so I could see what I'm just about to scrape the side of (I've collected 2 rear view mirrors to date)..

inside the window is an idea that protects the camera. ???

then move it to the door window with sucking cups.

here is one that works on batteries, but only for 10 hours. you can plug it in as well.

i talk with them and they are going to make it work for two cameras. it is to much money for it. really. but no wires just

for trailers mainly hook ups.

costco has 8 cameras for about the same price and storage with tv as well for $100 more.

http://rvingvideos.com/swifthitch-wireless-backup-camera-product-review/

costco 8 camera, 500$/ this one is best deal for what you get. great for full timers to watch it all the time.

http://www.costco.com/Q-See-8-Channel-Security-System-with-500GB-Hard-Drive-and-8-High-Resolution-Cameras.product.11652270.html

costco 4 camera 250$/

http://www.costco.com/.product.100036400.html?cm_sp=RichRelevance-_-itempageVerticalRight-_-PopularProductsInCategory&cm_vc=itempageVerticalRight% 7CPopularProductsInCategory

These costco security systems are great but 110 volt, how long with the batteries last with them working

i wonder. they have remote vision by internet as well. the one with 8 cameras you can put one in the onan area, one inside the motro area, rear front sides one on each tire area, high definition, for 500 dollars. not bad.

I want to sleep and see out side when i am stopped and record while i am gone with internet

vision to check on things by iphone. But how much battery power do you need to run this thing. It does all run on 12 volt.

the dvr and cameras do not say how many watts they are. any guesses how long this would last on a 12 volt two 6 volt battery

system down to half full? does anyone have a dvr and watch movies it should be about the same but you can turn the

tv part off i think to save juice. just hard drive and cameras, plus internet connection if out of the rig.

anyone want to guess the amount of time it will work on a deep cycle 12 volt with two 6 volt batteries???

my problem is how to stop them from being ripped off outside. they need to look like running lights. put them in the running lights.

On the passenger mirror would be my second camera if I wanted one. This roof mounted camera shows the toad very well. If it comes loose, I will know it, with or without a camera. I had planned to install one under the hatch. Got to thinking, why not just cut a big hole in the engine cover? So, I did. Don't need a camera there now. Smile

Peter,

I have one wireless camera located at the bottom sill on the inside of the rear window. Is at a slight down angle looking out over the top of the spare tire. I've had it for about 6 or seven years and cost back then was all of $77. Never have to clean the lens.
