Emery, thanks for sharing your excellent presentation on installation of in
tank fuel pumps. Jim Bounds made a case at a rally last year that he
connects both tanks together using the bottom drain fittings to in effect
just have one large tank. If that was done do you think that one in-tank
pump could be used in the rear tank only. This would get rid of lots of
lines, crossover switch, etc,
Thoughts??
Thanks,

I suppose you could but I like that fact that if one pump should go out I could just switch to the other. Although they have been in for about 5 years now and I haven't had any pump problem.

Dan,
Your remark "...never to drop the tanks again." got me thinking. The GM rubber fuel hose only lasted about 30 years. It's a pain to replace, that's true, but if the current "super hose" is inert to gasoline+alcohol I wonder if we can expect another 30 years from the new hose?
Don't get me wrong - it's my inclination to eliminate as much hose as possible and replace it with PolyArmor or similar. I'm just now questioning why I want to do that.

Yep, what Rob said. Have had my pumps since Emery shared this in Du Quoin. Have not got around to installing them yet. Guess I am waiting til I need to drop the tanks again, ha. Anyway, I will be cutting holes in the floor hoping never to drop the tanks again. No more rubber lines up under there, tank tops.

Larry,
I don't think they make a hose that will last that long with current fuels. Maybe they do. But, I can make sure I never have to drop them again when I do it this time, 30 year hose or not. I do like connecting the metal lines to the senders with rubber hose, short. By cutting my holes in the floor I can replace those pieces and the fuel pumps/senders without dropping tanks again. It is not that bad a job if you prepare for it. One guy can do it but not this one guy. I had my younger brother help me back in 08 or 09. I don't want my 2 tanks made into one either. They work fine just the way they are plumbed.

Dan - in 30 years you'll only be in your '80's. No problem doing them again, and don't forget Teri will be there to help, too!

Larry,
I very much doubt that any hose in current production will last another 30 years given what I have seen so far. It is apparent that the manufacturers (both hose and OE) are struggling with this. That is why most went on record to say that if 15% is forced on us, they will have no choice but to void warranties.
I used only Gates Barrier Hose J30-R14 for the little hose I used when I did almost everything under the coach and everything over the tanks in PolyArmor. This was after years of chasing fuel leaks under the coach and finally deciding I did not want that as another winter project again.
I recommend that you carefully consider what you want before you take on the same project as I did. It took much longer and was more difficult that I had expected.
The part that was really rewarding was moving the T in the fill vent to the cab floor.

Now adminttedly I replace them when the other engine accesories are replaced at rebuild.... but in 55 years of licensed driving, I can count on the road fuel pump failures which led to immobility on the fingers of one hand, and I will use only the thumb. And, as luck would have it, that one was an in - tank pump for an injected V-6 in a Mopar minivan. It's kind of a non - issue except for the potential to improve vapor locking.

Car is a heck of a lot easier to push out of an intersection, should a
