Good morning all
Work on new coach is coming along just fine. I will need to put new
tires on this guy and I am not sure I want to spend what I did on my
existing coach. I Have Michellin Ltx tires on it and they are fine just
a bit pricey. Any other good ideas. I like the Michellin ride just not
the high cost. Ideas would be appreciated. They will be set on New
Eagle wheels.
Thanks
Marcel in a lovely New Mexico.
P.S. We had a great time in Arizona with the Western Gmcers

Marcel,
I have had good luck with BF Goodrich Commercial T/A tires. I have been running them, or Coopers, on my construction trucks for years. My understanding is that BFG has been owned by Michelin for a number of years now, and has incorporated a lot of their manufacturing procedures. You get near the same quality without the premium Michelin price.
That said, I would feel comfortable running nearly any readily available brand name tires in a 225/75R16 size. You probably don't need load range e, but they are more common than LR-D and provide an extra margin of safety.

Search forum for last discussion on tires, lots of thoughts there. I personally prefer a Polywall tire. The basic GMC suspension was designed with the compliance of bias-ply in mind, that's what was available. IMHO, a steel tire is a bit stiffer than desired. Polywall is probably closer to bias-ply in flexibility. Opinion, not tested fact.
I personally owned Coopers, and now have Wally World Chinese-made tires. Wal-mart because of the warranty issue and 3500+ support sites. Last time I owned Goodyears, local dealer refused to replace a failed tire with a blown out side wall. Last set of Goodyears that I ever owned.

Hankooks Load Range E from Discount Tire. Good enough to do the job and cheap enough to throw away when they age-out.

Marcel,
I posted this info a couple of weeks ago and no one has confirmed or disagreed yet.
Look on America's Tire Co. aka Discount Tire online. In "SOME" market areas they are offering Cooper lrE tires for $97 each- about half the price of the BFG Commercial TA that I have been running.
I have ordered 7 tires and while the store in Montclair, Ca. had none, the manager is ordering them in. I'm in no hurry.
Great service- great price- and locations all across the country to service the excellent warranty.
Just say'n. Check it out and see what they can do in Hell Paso.

If it matters to you, Cooper and Ggodyear are made in USA according to my tire guy who owns his own 2 man shop and is the local Tire Rack installer. Not sure about BFG Commercial. I wont trust my life to Chinese and Korean tires on a heavy vehicle. To each his own.

As I said in the other thread, I been dealing with the same guy for twenty some years locally. He had Coopers, went to the warehouse and picked me six with new date codes. 6 on the Eagles, balanced and ready to ride, a thou and change. I asked about the chinese, he said he'd sell me a set at a savings over the Coopers, the warranty to expire when the tires left his lot. Locally, he comes and fixes flats free and warrants his stuff - balances and rotates no charge every 5k miles. I probably could of saved a hundred mail order - and it isn't worth it to me. I'll go up to ten percent anytime for a local merchant who backs his product.

I feel the same way about Michelins. Less than 500 miles on a new set of
tires on my MGC and they wouldn't honor their warranty when one blew out on
the way to work. Neither me or my parents or my kids or my brother have
bought one since 1992 all because the Michelin District Manager wouldn't
honor their warranty on one tire. Really bad customer service.
