May I ask who's rebuild you decided to go with? Also which brand and weight of oil were you running at time of failure. Any additives and which oil filter. Hope it all turns out for the best

I "think" he burned a hole in a piston. If this is true, then his failure probably was not oil related. This sounds more like a distributor weights or vacuum leak detonation problem to me.

I do not know much about what was going on.

He is having an engine supplied by Miguel Mendez of MGM GMC
He personally assembles the engines and test runs them.
He has a very great record and we have used his engines and have one on
order with him.
We are always in contact with other GMC shops and also are aware of people
to avoid, that will give us problems. There are some I kicked out and told
them to their face never to come to our shop and tore up the high dollar
invoice and told them they owe me nothing.

Ok. Or someone swapped 5/7 wires. That will blow up 7 by advancing it 1/4 turn of crank rotation. I agree that doesn't sound oil related. It just makes sense to contact our vendors first. They already went to school on things GMC. And free advice makes you smarter.

I just wanted to add my anecdotal input to Jim's. I bought my coach with 4,000 miles on a Miguel rebuild (though he rebuilt it when he was working under the Lamey banner). The motor has run flawlessly for about 7,000 miles so far, and has used no more than two quarts of oil in that time. I had a long talk with Miguel about the specs he builds to, and came away confident he knows his craft, and understands the unique aspects of our motors.
