Documented here on the photo site for the email folks:

Had to pull my valve covers and intake manifold to plug my crossover and do some other work. The right side is a SOB and I'm not talking about Some Other Brand! It won't come off until the AC bracket is off. The rear AC bracket won't come off until the long stud is removed. The stud has been rusting in place for 40 years. A sawsall cut between the front bracket and the rear bracket lets the rear bracket come right off. The rusted in place stud was just drilled out. A little sanding to clean up the saw cut.

The short piece is what is left of the stud. The bolt is what will replace it.

Here it is in place. A 3/8 washer goes between the two brackets to make up for the saw cut width.

With this mod, you can remove 4 bolts and then take the valve cover off. without removing any of the other brackets.

Hopefully I won't have to take it off again but if I do, it won't take half a day again. Shocked Laughing

Old engine cleaned up pretty good!

I learned from Chuck Boyd that this can be done, at Dothan. 3 bolts and a nut, like magic. No longer a big deal to change that valve cover or snug that one bolt that lies right under that dang bracket.
Thanks for the pictures.

Nice job Man!Motor looks awesome!Too bad the GM only got the AC on the Cad proper.
All others like Chevy got the A6 just scabbed on.Most stuff even now has the compressor in the middle.I am going to try to clean and get my compartment to look as good as yours.
