Dash unknown part [message #204701]

I was installing a new radio and saw this thing in a hole between the Speedo and the fuel gauge behind the face panel.

It looks like a light bulb socket but has circuit board and has 4 wires?

There is no hole in the dash face panel for a bulb.

Help! What is it?

Sorry, I could not figure out how to add a picture.

But this looks like the critter!

So it turns on a light in the telltale panel.
Does it work if you put a light bulb into it, too?
