I am not sure of the TZE of the change, but I would call any with Power Level (Knobs on the dash) "early" and any with Electro Level (switches on the dash) I would call "late."

Don't know when the change was either, but we looked at a coach with vin
TZE166V101162 and birth date of 1/21/76 that had the power level knobs and
we own coach vin TZE166V101534 with birth date of 3/376 that has the
Electro Level rockers, so that narrows the vins down to about 37o units and
the birth dates to a little over a month of production. If GMC did things
in an orderly manner!

I have vin 1461, it has the Electro Level system.
That cuts it down to 297.

Thought maybe I could narrow the change from Power leveler to Electro leveler from the official GMC Manual listing by using the Service Parts Identification sticker (glove box sticker) data that I have collected. Here is what I found:

From the earliest 1973 to the latest 1977 they are identified as option "GYE" and are ALL called, "Power Suspension Leveler".

For 1978 the first ~600 are option "GXW" "Susp Dana Air".
After ~600 there is no option listed for the remainder of '78s.

Not much help, but that is the story.

The 1978 transmodes that were upfitted by JIMMY INDUSTRIES (Coachman) had
the EL 2 system with 2 compressors and electronic ride height controls. I
believe that most of the GM upfitted late 77 and 78 did also. I have never
encountered a 78 that did not, but with GMC's anything is possible.

Jim, I am aware of the EL 2 system on 78s. I was hoping someone would pick up on my mention of the first 600 1978s using a different option number and the remaining 78s having no listing at all. By the way, I have not seen a 77 with EL 2, that does not mean it didn't happen.

May I suggest the following:

1- Anyone out there with a 1978 with a TZE sequence# <600 let us know which suspension system you have? *

2- Anyone with a 1977 with a TZE sequence# >2,000, what suspension system do you have?

Don't care about TZEs outside of the above ranges, thanks,

At the last TI rally, I was looking at a 1978 Birchaven a lot like mine. I do not remember who owned it, but It had a lower (than mine) TZE and it had the first Electro Level system. (Single air-pump w/all the solenoids.)

I am fairly sure you'll not find any OEM installed EL2 systems in anything other than a "later" 1978.

Thanks for the feedback. What I expected was was the early 1978s continued usage of the single Dana system and at some point, around TZE~600 was a switch to EL II.

New question:

- Would like feedback for early 1978 TZEs that used the EL II system, trying to determine when the phase in occurred
(expecting TZEs >600 & <1000)

Appreciate your input.
