My original question got overlooked and went unanswered in the discussion.

Three part numbers are listed for the various production years. Any one know what the differences are and why they were changed?

I assume the brackets are the same (at least on all 455's) and that any of the pumps can be properly mounted.

If one of the 3 pumps delivers more pressure than the others- that may solve my issue.

I have neither offset bushings nor extra ordinary caster so I don't think Jim Hupy's explanation applies in my case.

Any other ideas/suggestions?

Thanks for the input.

Gene,

The internal parts are all the same. The early 70s pumps had a tapered
shaft with a retaining nut.
Later had a straight shaft with a press-on pulley. Some differences in
where the return line pointed.
only performance differences were the orifice size and number of shims in
the control valve.
They claim the Eldos with hydroboost had higher pressure, but I put one on
and no change, except
it stopped the leak.
