Finally tackled the smelly old water heater in the coach. Hasn't been usable since we bought it over 5 years ago. Despite the shutoffs, the nasty gunk which wouldn't drain was smelling up our tap water.
Removing that old tank had to be the worst house system job I've done, and that's coming from someone who replaced the black water tank and added a macerator. Just a miserable job, even with Gene's link to where the "hidden" bolt is found.
Luckily I already had the rear passenger davo out, I was cleaning up some plumbing at the white water tank and adding a drain in the propane compartment, so I could remove the blanket closet and get at the back of the water heater, but just a royal pain all the way through. None of the four screws that held the round tank brackets in place would even move without serious effort and the last one had to be cut off and drilled out.
Eventually the tank came out and it was filled with a rusty, red, chunky sludge. Wasn't hard to figure out what caused it when I put a screwdriver through what remained of the tank wall.
Oh well, now it's out. Replacement is on the way and with better maintenance I think we'll actually have hot water in the coach. Very excited to be able to bath the kids in the shower rather than dragging them to a bath house and then trying to run herd over them!
Thanks,
