Went over this morning and pulled the motorhome out of storage to have someone look at some cabinet remakes for me and I had a time steering the motorhome. It moved freely in a turn till it hit one point of the turn and it hung up. It felt like it was binding up on one point of a turn. Anyone know what I should be suspecting? It just felt like it bound up at the same spot of the turn.

That link Gene provided covers it all. The short story is it's usually the CV joint at the bottom of the steering column (top of the intermediate shaft with the blue coating) Disassemble clean and repack with Valvoline Synpower grease. There have been threads here that Synpower grease will stop the bind where others will not. Valvoline makes several greases so be sure you buy the SYNPOWER. NAPA usually has it but not other chains. The link will help with the details on R and R. Grease the slide joint and the lower ujoint as well on the intermediate shaft. You may need a new boot up top if it has failed. Dirt and water love to get in there from the hood seam. When reinstalling the shaft be sure it it fully home on both ends as often is a common mistake found on examining these coaches. This is a common thing, but does not rule out other problems. If the pump is whining when this happens it could be a bind after the PS box rather than on the input side. Be safe.

Funny thing. I could not find Synpower at any of the auto parts stores in Vicksburg, or Jackson, MS. One said it was too expensive for the area, stating the cost would be about $16.
First parts store in Dothan, it was on the shelf for ----$7.00.
When looking for stuff don't give up.

Look a this picture.
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/miscellaneous/p8623.html
This is a vertical shaft between the bottom of the steering shaft and the steering box itself.
Pump some grease in that grease fitting. I have seen several seize up from never being greased and it will cause the symptom that you are describing.
Open the driver's side hood and look slightly down. You will see this slip joint.

Hey Hey, it worked. Something I got to watch after. I put some grease on the universale and turned the wheel and it worked loose. I do have to have boot replacments and will order that from Jim. Thanks all for your help...she is turning with ease now.

Mine has some play in the system, all of which appears to be the trunion bearings on the lower U-joint. I got to take it apart at some point to re boot the upper (CV) joint in the column. I sahll attend to the U-joint at that time.

Tom,
I, like some others, think you have a problem in the column CV joint. But I would like to add a note of caution. Read the section that Gene pointed to, but before you take anything apart - - Set the wheels to Straight Ahead and MARK the parts. Between the four ways the slip joint can go together and the six ways the CV joint can be installed and the things that can happen with the splines, it is very possible that you can end up with things out of place and if that happens, there will be unrelenting grief. This can be sorted out later (I had to undo someone else's work), but it is a massive PITA.

Thanks Matt, I will take caution in making sure things are aligned and marked before I remove anything. Appreciate the note on this. Let you know how it comes out.
