I'm looking into some of the things this community has accomplished in the preservation of the GMC.

I wan't paying much attention to these developments as they don't really apply to the Revcon (although the One Ton might)

But it seems like in the time I've been hanging out here the one ton conversion went from crazy science project to a bolt-on solution.

Can some one point to some of he early conversations, or spell out the history, or identify the early developers on eaither of these upgrades?

Are there any other upgrades that have gone from shade-tree hack to problem solved?

thanks

Dave, this is the best collection I've run across:
http://gmcmotorhome.info/front.html

It does not mention Manny Traveo's version but if you read the links bottom up, you can see the development. To my LIMITED knowledge, Bill Hubler was the originator of the idea.

Dave,

The electric wipers probably qualify for "...other upgrades that have gone
from shade-tree hack to problem solved."

Back in about '05, I gave up on the hydraulic wiper control cable and
installed an electric replacement:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g3398-electric-control-for-hydraulic-wipers.html

That worked pretty well, for me. SHE couldn't contend with the speed
increasing for a while and then decreasing while the switch was activated
-- I never included limit switches. When my daughter got caught driving in
Chicago traffic at 6 PM on a Friday afternoon in a thunderstorm with those
wipers, I got an ultimatum: FIX IT!

Since Dan Hudson was having a persistent problem of the hydraulic wipers
blowing the top seal on his power steering box, he and I collaborated on a
design via email. Finally, in about April '07 he came to visit and we
installed the prototype:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/gmc-electric-wipers/p4643.html

Later, in high winds and heavy rain, the arms began to wipe the front hoods
instead of the windshield, destroying the entire mechanism -- that motor's
STRONG. So we redesigned to the current configuration which has now been
replicated 200+ times:

I think that all the developers of these upgrades should be acknowledged and thanked for their contributions. No one is getting rich from these products (ask the Jim's!), and these have been done out of love for the coaches as much as anything. I'm just glad that folks are willing to take on these projects, and we benefit from their research.

Now, let's see what upgrades come up next!

i agree there is not much more exciting than the new inventions coming from Manny, and the Jim's, as well as the body works from

others and the tools etc. This is what makes the GMC so exciting to own. It is like a new car that keeps getting newer.

The 26 foot hot rod, what poetry from JimB. great to have so many persons to appreciate this machine.

I plan to get the new front end some day, as well as the quad bags some day when these wear out.

baby needs a new pair of shoes. rock'in great stuff here.

thanks to all !
