Considering the overwhelming anecdotal evidence from our many GMCs, I really don't buy that mixing ethanol in gasoline helps it burn more efficiently. If that was the case, why do we get SO much better gas mileage burning non-ethanol gas? I will assume that 10 gallons of 10% ethanol will take you very slightly farther than 9 gallons of "real gas", but that hardly counts as "efficient" in any way I could use the word (especially since it takes about a gallon of "real gas" to produce that gallon of ethanol).

As many of you know, I have worked in engine labs for many years. Back in the early 80's we were doing ethanol testing. At the time, it was so rare that we often had to blend our own. The one thing that we did prove was that it made no measurable difference in emissions when used in an engine that was tuned to the manufacturer's specifications. It made no difference in performance (except for higher fuel consumption at peak load) with a closed loop engine and reduced the peak performance of an open loop (like GMC with Rochester) engine.
And that is all I will say about that today.
