I think this has been covered generally for a variety of States, but I'm asking specifically about Washington.
Is anyone else running Collector Plates on their GMC?
When I inquired this morning while renewing other plates I asked about this, and was told that you can license it that way, but you can't sleep in it - you can only take it to car shows or just drive it, but actually using it as it was designed is a no-no.
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Farris Bueller?

Suppose it was a pick up truck. Could you not use it as designed?
Sounds a bit odd to me.

Mitch, Ive 'e had a couple of gmc's licensed as collectors in seattle,
no one has bothered me, even mayor Mcschwinn hasn't ticketed me yet.
One can worry about everything that comes along if they think about it
long enough but the bottom line is would an occasional $50 dollar
ticket ( if it is illegal) cost more than paying yearly tabs on the
thing ? $ 50 fee dan 78 royale 76 royale 75 el 2 make that 2 78
royales it's a sickness I tell ya ! anybody looking for a coach ?

They said the same thing to me. Restricted mileage/use. I have one on the Pig and unless they come door to door checking odometers I'm not goin to sweat it

Funny you should ask. I was told "If you have collector plates on a pickup and you put anything in the bed, you're out of compliance."

I think I'll go for it; after all, there's always a car show somewhere I could be traveling to ... overnight. Very Happy

I believe Washington State restrictions includes any "road tests" or "maintenance" use. Always need to go to a gas station and fuel up.

I have Collector plates on my VW Thing and probably drive it more than my daily driver. Nobody has bothered me locally or when I travel to distance events. That being said,.....insurance issues may pop up if or when something does happen.

Good Luck!

Georgia issues 'antique' plates.  And like all the other ego plates, they charge extra for them polus you still have to pay ad valorem... athough they've gerrymandered the ad valorem this year into something which I >think< is going to cost more.  Point is, the antique plates get you no privlege and you pay extra for them  Solves the 'occasional use' problem.

Suppose...you had a pickup truck with antique plates and wanted to go to a car show further from home.
Where do you put your luggage?
Get the plates and don't tell anyone you sleep in it.
Tell them you sleep under it.... Rolling Eyes

I have found that the local DMV personnel are not that "up" on the "non-common" aspects like collector plates. Around here they think it is "only for parades." They do not seem to notice the part about club functions and the like.

You should be able to pull up the actual law for your state, on line and read what it actually says.

Mike,
A majority of the GMC Great Lakers use collector plates on their coach. I can use it to go to rallies, which is everywhere we go and parades and car shows.
