Ken just called and asked that I update the group. He is currently in the hospital in Americus with chest pains. They are sending him to Emory in Atlanta tomorrow for a heart catherization.

He still hopes to attend the rally but certainly will not be there tomorrow or Thursday as he had planned.

I'm sure prayers will be appreciated.

Judy and I wish Ken the best outcome!

Wife Judy had a stroke back on 17 Feb that affected her vision and
this stuff is a big worry, as I know it is for Ken and his family.

Here's hoping for nothing serious and quick return to A-1 shape!

Ken, I had a stent placed in the anterior decending artery in 1990. I could
tell the difference on the way back to my room from the cath lab. I watched
it on tv as they were doing it. Went home the next day. They can do great
stuff now. Waaaayyy better than chest pains. Hang in there, and we will see
you down the road.

Ken, hang in there and soon you'll be good as new.

I can't help thinking of a verse from John Lennon's song "Beautiful Boy" when stuff like this pops up; "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans". The older we get the more meaningful this becomes.

I had a double bypass in 2005 (the stent was a weird place so they use that) and a mind stroke in 2007. Now I suffer Aphasia and that is a disorder of communication that impairs a person’s ability to use and comprehend language.

Now no fun food – no hamburgers, no steaks, whole milk, no eggs, no BACCON, no cheese, but I am living.

PLEASE GET AN IMR in you veins that go from your heart to you head. My doctor(s) failed to give me an IMR so they missed the blockage that gave the stroke.

Best wishing’s for a fast turn around.

Well, then the odds are good that he already knows this. Since it is
topical, I will share it with y'all, just in case it is news to any of
you.

Y'all already know that I'm an attorney, but not necessarily what
KIND. I work as a claims adjudicator, deciding Veterans claims for
benefits with the Veterans Administration.

Back in August 2010, ischemic heart disease (IHD) was added to the
list of conditions that we grant presumptive service connection for
due to exposure to Agent Orange. Not hypertension or arrythmia, but
Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) counts as IHD. What that means is that
for Vietnam Veterans who we can confirm were on the ground in the
Republic of Vietnam during the war we will concede exposure to Agent
Orange, and grant service connection for IHD. A Vietnam Service Medal
doesn't count, we have to confirm "boots on the ground". I have used
TDY orders, leave slips, and all manner of other documentation to
establish in-country service and grant benefits.

We also added Parkinson's and certain flavors of leukemias.

I was hoping that come fall, maybe I could talk my chain-of-command
into letting me do a little seminar at the Branson rally talking about
Veterans benefits. They can be kind of uptight about that sort of
thing, and the only times I have ever gotten into trouble have been
reactions to me trying to actually ACCOMPLISH something. But I
digress.

Ken sounds like he's suffering from coronary artery disease (a form of
IHD). A lot of the Air Force activity was out of Thailand, but
sometimes there's proof in in-country service.

The nice thing about being service connected for IHD is that the VA
hospitals will treat it for free, and there can be a monthly benefits
check, depending on the severity (example: medication only is 10%
worth between 1 and 2 hundred bucks a month, with higher evaluations
warranting higher percentages and compensation depending on left
ventricular ejection fraction, METS level, etc.)

If Ken (or any Vietnam Veterans) have IHD and aren't already
service-connected, they need to put in a claim for service conneciton
with the VA. If he is already service connected, depending on what his
current evaluation and what the test results show for his ejection
fraction etc, he may want to put in a claim for increase.

Feel free to hit me up with VA questions at Dothan. I can't speak
officially, but I've got a pretty good insider's view of things, and I
consider it my mission to help Vets whether I'm on the clock or not.

Look at it this way:

They "drop the tanks" - replace some of the lines - maybe, a new sending unit - bolt 'em back up and - good for, at least, another 3 years.

Just stay away from that ethanol crap (and, maybe, fried food) and you'll be OK.

Don't forget to check for leftover parts when they're done.

Get well Ken!

If you look back over our lifetimes it's truly stunning how much progress has been made in treating the heart.

Ken has always shown great curiosity - it keeps the mind young. I can imagine the Curious Colonel talking at length with his doctors, technicians, and for many reasons the nurses!

That last one might just be dangerous.

Good luck Ken. My best hopes and wishes for a rapid and complete recovery are with you.

As Johnny reported in another thread, Ken is out of the cath lab and ready to come home. No blockage detected, but they still don't know what is causing the chest pains. I know it's not me...my GMC projects usually cause him pain a little lower down.

What great news!
