OK, Randy Van Winkle (Wink or Winker) has been a great friend since 10th grade. I know he won't say too much about this, so I will.
If there is any improvement to our coach, it has been to the water supply. Ruth loves the hot water regulator for the shower. She thinks I am a hero. Well I am her hero...
But. Nothing irritates us like getting into bed only to have the pump go "buruup". Or, being in the bathroom only to have to say, "Honey, can you turn on the water?"
Randy and Margie got us infected with the GMC virus and Ruth shamelessly bribes Randy into GMC project by cooking chocolate goodies for him. Randy is Ruth's hero number two. He put in one of his systems. We now have a button in the kitchen, bathroom and by the bed. Push and it goes on. Push and it goes off. Start in the kitchen and stop in the bathroom; doesn't matter. And the little LED is just right for the middle of the night when you turn on the pump in the bathroom.
When Randy and Margie visited last month, we watched them putting all the parts in neat little bags. They will be at Dotham. JimK has them listed in new arrivals. This is an easy way to be someone's hero... Or hero-ine. Best thing since sliced bread.
The kit costs more than he wanted because of the controller, but when he put ours in we had to make three trips to Radio Shack looking for switches that would work and not stick out too far. Wink got the good stuff for the kit.

How much does the kit cost, George? We'd like to have one.

Billy,
JimK is selling the kits. I noticed he has not put a price on the kits when he put them on his site. I will check with him in the next few days at Dothan and see what price he will be selling them for.
It is a nice kit and makes the wiring for multiple switches and indicator light really simple. I did a lot of research trying to come up with a way to do multiple switches. Most solutions require expensive switches and very complex wiring in order to get multiple switches to work. Of course, you can always just put another switch, say in the bathroom, tied in to the existing wiring, but while you might be able to turn the pump on, you are then limited to having to turn it off in the bathroom. This kit makes the operation of the pump completely independent of which switch is used. Turn on in bathroom, turn off in kitchen or bedroom or any combination. Can also put a switch/light in the cockpit so if you forget to turn the pump off and you are going down the road, just hit the button and it's off.

OMG! That'd be wonderful! I want it! (Debbie wants it even more) One of
the handiest things is to run the water pump off the bathroom lighting, but
even that is not quite right. If you don't want the pump to run, you have
to use the lights on the other side.
Let us know ASAP. I'm first! :-)

I went with the KISS principle, and just did a normal 3-way with one switch in the bathroom and one at the kitchen sink, both with LED's to show when the pump was on.

Yes, always interested in new directions
but
if your pump," BUURPS", when you are not using it
- you have a much larger problem
- you have a leak in your fresh water system
- you need to find and fix this leak
- somewhere, something is getting wet
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g5035-fresh-water-leak-from-city-water-connection.html
- the leak may just be a leaking faucet,
- but what ever it is, fix the leak first, the on/off later :>)
- you are fixing the wrong problem here

Well Gene, of course you are right I should fix my leak. I've fixed a number of leaks. The last one I know of is where the plastic pipe meets the hot water heater. I've work on this for a number of hours cussing and cursing but it still gives up a drop maybe every 10-15 minutes, depending on the water temperature. I've got a margarine tub under the "leak" to catch the drops, but its basically dry as the water evaporates as fast as it drips.
I don't have a building I can house my GMC in and it snows here from November till early April so the GMC is in storage where I can't work on it for 5-6 months/year.
I'm still a working stiff. I own a business that occupies my time from 7:30am till ~ 6:30pm 5 days a week. There is also the evenings I spend going to meetings, reading equipment manuals, keeping up on Government rules and regulations etc. I'm also on-call 24/7.
When summer comes along I've got an acre of lawn to cut and maintain plus lots of outdoor maintenance and don't forget the Honey-do list. So I'd rather spend what free time I have enjoying the GMC than fixing my "minor" leak.
I wanted to add a pump switch in the bathroom, so in my "free time" this winter I came up up with a circuit that would meet all my criteria ( may have missed some so feel free to add your ideas)
-Simple push ON/OFF operation
-Auto Power-Off
-Fixes my leak and BURRRUP until Gene can fix it for me.
-Illuminated switch
-Waterproof switch in bath (IP65 or 67)
-Minimal power to switch so small wires can be used
-Just 2 wires to each switch for switching and to power the LED
-Pressing switch multiple times increases auto-off time 10-20-30 minutes (yet to be implemented)
I'm in electronics yet these days I don't get to work to board level anymore. I find this stuff fun and relaxing seeing what I can make an 8 pin micro-controller do that is useful to me. It was fun making 2 wires control an LED and sense a switch as well. I got to keep up my GM "C" programming skills too (that was a joke)
Gene, if we ever cross paths, you can fix my leak. Otherwise, unless it gets alot worse it will likely stay that way. Some day I'll be retired and maybe I'll gut the coach and re-plumb it.
Thanks for your great site Gene!

In the 23' it's not all that long a walk to the water pump switch when
needed, plus I've been lucky to have not had a leak since the 1999 refurb
(knock on wood). But, if I were installing a system, I suspect I'd avoid
the wiring run by using one of the little, cheap, Chinese
transmitter/receiver pairs like on my cruise control.
A single-channel pair is only about $10, and additional remotes, which can
be coded to match, about $5. The receiver might require a supplemental
relay -- I don't recall the specs for the internal one. The receiver has
settings for alternate action or momentary operation of the relay, so it
could even form the input for Bruce's timer. The remotes are about like a
small automotive remote and are easily mounted with double-stick tape.

Gene,
On this one I agree with you 100%. I LEARNED THE HARD WAY!
I got up the first morning at the Harrington GMCMI Convention, put my feet on the carpet between the twin beds and it squished!
Found one of the copper pipes that connect to the shower taps was split (frozen). Fortunately it was an easy fix, remove the line,
close the split, solder it up and that was that.
Subsequent to that debacle we no longer connect to city water even though Avion put a 40 psi regulator just downstream of the inlet.
Regards,
Rob M.

last rally I went to in Palm Desert, 3 GMC coaches flooded (they were
hooked up to Hoover Dam) and the leaks got larger.
Some day I'll be retired and maybe I'll gut the coach and re-plumb it.
priorities, priorities, priorities
careful what you wish for
- problem with retirement is
- there are no days off
- up at 3 am for 2 hours on web page
- list of 20 things to get done today
have a great day

Years ack I had modified the lighted switch by the door to turn it into a three way switch. I then mounted a switch in the bathroom. I can turn the pump on and off from either location.
Sometime after doing that I learned of a good way to handily the water pump. Just run a wire from the bathroom light switch to the water pump. When you turn the bathroom light on your pump has power. When you turn the light off it turns the pump off. Most people turn the light off when leaving the bathroom so you don't go to bed with the pump on.
The from switch by the door would still work as is to turn the pump on for the kitchen.

I am thinking of turning off the spelling correction feature on my iPhone. It "corrected" so much of my typing in this last message and some others that it makes me look like an idiot that cannot spell or type!
