I received the following message on a boating list.
While I haven't tried the product mentioned (not
many bugs around in Oklahoma at this time of year),
I would suspect RVers and campers could benefit
from this product.

I think I'll head for wallyworld and see if they
have them. It might prove helpful in Dothan!

In lieu of a Bug Zapper, which would attract bugs, for years we have used
the best bug repeller that we have ever seen. It is not a cream or lotion
but a heated (small, enclosed, butane flame) chemical pad that emits an
odorless vapor that eliminates insects. It is sold under the name of
ThermaCELL and can be purchased at WalMart, hardware stores, and on line.
We have used the device in open areas, as well as enclosed areas. It is
great for repelling mosquitos, no-see-ums, and some flies. It really works
great and the cost is approx. $25.

These work great! No smoke, no visible flame. Only thing you have to remember is to turn the unit off after you are finished with it or you will use up all the butane. Each pad is good for about 4 hours and the butane containers will burn for about 8-10+ hours.

If you use a pad for only 2 hours and then turn the unit off, the pad won't be good anymore after that, which is pretty much the way most of the pads that require heat to activate them work.
