Has anybody tried this Thetford High Profile Toilet
that is on special for $139.90 at AdventureRV.net?

Might be helpful to those of us with bad (old) knees?

BTW, I recommend you add yourself to the adventurerv.net mailing list.
They very frequently have good prices on stuff of interest to ALL RVers.

Mac,

I installed a similar one about 2 years ago, but it's ceramic and didn't
cost much more (at an RV suplus dealer near Lazy Days @ Tampa). The women
seem to prefer ceramic.

Whatever you do, don't make the mistake I allowed HER to push me into: The
rear bath Coachmen have a platform about 5" high under the toilet. When we
were looking at the new toilets, SHE insisted that she wanted the tall one.
Even after I had HER sit on both short and tall ones resting on the
display case bottom shelf, SHE insisted that's what SHE wanted.

At 6'2", I'm pretty comfortable and my knees love the new toilet. But I
don't enjoy hauling around the X-Grandkids'-Bathroom-Step-Stool that SHE
now has to use to climb on & off. :-(

That's the one I installed in my Palm Beach, and I love it. The ceramic ones may be nicer, but the height is great for vintage knees!

This change along with installing a Fantastic Fan in the bath have totally transformed the bath module. Now, I just have to decide what to do about the shower wand. Those new ones being advertised do look nice and should give a bit more pressurized feel to the shower wand.

Joe,

Two questions:

1. How are you going to avoid the "box"? The toilet feeds straight down
into the black tank. The box is there because the "floor" rises beneath
it, making it mandatory without major configuration changes.

2. Does the proposed toilet have a ball valve or a blade? In my
considerable experience, the ball is MUCH less prone to jamming and leaking.

Joe,

The second photo following the link, showing the wide shelf, clarifies your
situation -- the fresh water tank in my 76 Birchaven is beside the right
wheel well rather than behind the rear bath wall. I can see how the new
location allows a better position for the toilet -- and frees up the space
where my H2O tank is now.

Do try the ball valve.

Joe,

I can't speak to any installation issues, but I installed a Dometic 310 porcelain toilet in our coach about three years ago and couldn't be happier with it. It has been trouble free and easy to keep clean ever since.

You're welcome. As a PS, and I know this probably doesn't apply to your situation, the 'bone' color matches the GMC wet bath perfectly.

Is there a difference between a "RV Residence Toilet" and a "normal" RV toilet?

Something about this statement makes me think so:

this pot does not say ceramic which today is the better one to get it seems.

THe port a potty that you can take out of the shower area and dump in any restroom may be a possible use that works well.

West marine has one that i used on a boat once and it was ok, lasted about 4 days and then you have to dump it in any toilet

any where. This was a bit of a task but if you have one of these it would make the shower smaller for you can move it in and out

to use the shower.

http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=11151&partNumber=13587316#.UT2CXI4rz0c

These are not as good as ceramic and big black tank, as well you do not have to dump it by hand, but it is interesting. :-)

Sorry, I checked my records this morning and have to edit the above. The toilet I installed was a SeaLand (Dometic) 510, not a 310. I can't find a listing for this one on CW's website, but it closely resembles the 320.

Hi, Gang!

I pulled the trigger on this this morning.
When I realized that some had said "bone"
was the color of our bathrooms, I realized
that the one in the ad was white. I did a
bit of exploring on the adventurerv.net
website and found the listing for the bone
version and ordered it.

The actual order number for the Thetford
42171 TALL, BONE toilet is S712-83-2186.
They stock both regular and tall in both
white and bone versions.

Same $139.90 price, shipping to my location
(OKC) is $17.11, and shipping insurance of
$1.33. Total delivered cost will be $158.34.

Hopefully, it will be a simple installation.
I'm sure it won't be done before we leave
for our attempt to make Dothan.

I'm hoping that Jim Bounds (of Coop and Fire
Fight) will do Fire Fight installations at
Dothan, cause that is insurance I'm definitely
waiting to purchase!
