Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the 3.42 was a planetary...I think it was spider gears? Only the 3.21 had the planetary gears. Again correct me if I'm wrong.

3.42 is not planetary, only 3.21. As I recall the story, 3.42 was under design as a replacement for the GMC motorhome. I believe that Cinnabar is the source for this ratio.
Still a nice choice.
