Looked over the owners manual on the control box.
Not clear what it does. Are you just using it as a analog to digital converter?
Otherwise why would someone need this unit?
Thanks!

Rob, Looks nice and expensive.
I purchased a fold down mount, capable of mounting flat screens with the standard VESA layout on the back. It was about $40 at TigerDirect. I mounted it under my overhead cabinet. It has a swivel that enables it to turn about 110 degrees, right or left. You can put almost any size screen on it that would be rational in the GMC space.
When the LCD is folded, the space taken is about 3" below the hanging point. I hung mine between the two lights on the kitchen side cabinet. Most LCD TV's have internal tuners, no separate tuner box. Small LCD's are very inexpensive now, almost throwaway pricing.
Just the way I solved a similar desire.
Of course, hooking up that big monitor to the GPS video output would be great!

The flip down mount that I used is SANUS model VMUC-1. It is designed to support LCD's up to 17" and weight under 15 pounds.

Yeah, looks like the two units together are a bit spendy.
That's why I wondered about your usage plan.
Seems like the receiver/tuner can handle a lot of different
set-ups.
I would love to have a large screen version of my GPS.

great idea, any pictures? saves batteries for smaller ones, which flat tv is best for source power used.
It may be best to use tv on the computer if that is possible now. i am sure but not knowing how now.

Mickeyss, are you asking about using a computer to watch TV? There are many devices made that will allow the use of a computer to watch TV. If you are near a MicroCenter or Fry's, check out their inventory. Everything from USB plug-ins to internal PC cards. I've used both over the years and they do work, some better than others. Many have DVR type software with them, so you even pick up that neat little device for free.
Many small LCDs will run on 12v, check the power brick output specs. You may have to build a power cord. Otherwise, you can use a small power inverter/converter rated for the power draw. Not rocket science.

Reading the very limited information on the Pyle monitor. It is several generations
old. No HDMI input, no VGA input. It is a very pricy dead end design. The tuner only has composite video outputs, again a technically obsolete design. If one is going to spend that amount of money, I would look for HDMI, perhaps even two HDMI ports. VGA would be nice then you could use your laptop to play DVDs on the screen.

With 2 LCDs in the GMC, not planned, just happened.

I had 2 seven inch Pyle monitors, one after the other, that I used with my Sanyo backup camera. Both failed after a very short time.

Tom,
There is NO WAY I would spend a GRAND on this setup! I've sent in a separate email with the Amazon prices.
Currently we have a LCD TV that sits on top of the Avion's dresser which has a built in DVD player. I didn't want to screw it down
so we move it to the bed when driving. We also have a Sony wireless headset so I can watch TV without bothering Helen.
I was thinking of mounting this unit just forward of the rear A/C, however, I don't know it that's possible, I'll have to take some
measurements when I get over there.
I bought a mount to attach the current LCD TV to the ceiling but it would stick down too far so that was that. The other option I
was considering was mounting it to the backside of the bathroom wall.
I'll decide what to do once I get over there next month.

Rob M.

Terry,
Since I would install it on the ceiling above the bunks I won't be using it for a GPS. ;-)
The ad notes:
High-Definition Video Capable of HDTV formats, supporting 1080i, 720p, and 480i/480p resolutions. Provide your passengers with
amazing crystal-clear quality picture while on the road.
I Googled 1080i and found this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1080i
Broadcast Standard
A frame of 1080i video consists of two sequential fields of 1920 horizontal and 1080 vertical pixels.
The monitor ad notes:
High Resolution: 1920 x 1080
I'm confused!

Two problems here, ATSC television just plain does NOT work
in-motion and this tune only puts out composite video, so it
is NOT by any stretch of the definiton "High Definition"

Tom,
I agree re the limited info, I am going to email Pyle and get more details.
I'm looking for a BIG screen and this one seems to be the BIGGEST!

My thoughts exactly, well, not quite. I was thinking "rip off". Spot on ---
old technology. But, if you want, I can send about a dozen 3-in-1 RCA cables
for video and stereo audio. Too much for too little. For the same money you
can have three Toshiba TVs with built-in DVD player.
I'd go for something that could be mounted with VESA.
The one thing going for it. It is 12v.

Nothing to be confused about. 1920 x 1080 is what it is.
Still, RCA video (yellow) doesn't quite put out the quality that the monitor
could handle. It needs composite video (rgb cables) at a minimum if not
HDMI. The RCA left/right for audio is OK, I guess. There's something missing
in the equation.
That is say "capable HDTV" doesn't mean much to me. I'm capable of lifting
100 pounds but don't do it.
It's still old technology looking for a home but the Amazon pricing is much,
much better. Might be worth that price but certainly not worth what Pyle
thinks it is.
