When did the new production model year start each year for the GMC motorhome.

For example, VW's started in August. So a vehicle built in September would be the next years model.

The reason I ask is that sometimes a vehicle built in say October 77 (a 78 model) would get registered as a 77 and not as a 78. Likewise a vehicle built in July of 77 (77 model) that didn't get sold until January would get registered as a 78.

I just discovered that the 77 Royale that I'm picking up has a VIN number indicating it to be a 78. The production sequence number is pretty low (439).

So given the VIN is it possible to estimate month unit was built. In this case VIN = TZE368V100439. Guess I need to update my signature line Laughing

If you have the Service Parts Identification Sticker on the inside of your glove box you don't have to guess, the date is there on the top line. See the link below for the details:

Some P.O. spray painted over my "Sticker" inside the glove box. Some
P.O. also painted the "interior woodwork" grey; probably some by brush!

Is it possible (or even likely) that a careful application of lacquer
thinner might reveal what was originally there?

It's obvious (from shower curtain) that it WAS a Palm Beach, and the
fender wells inside the rear wheels is still that greenish color.

Those are the only real clues to its original build as it appears that
everything else has been replaced except of bits of original interior
and exterior paint that was not easy to change.

Mac,
Should not be too much of a problem if done with care since the later stickers were covered with a clear film. Here is my suggestion:
- Start at the lower edge of the sticker since it is an area that has little information there to harm.

- wet a cloth with some thinner and wipe a small area checking at each swipe for paint removal.

- use care since since too much thinner may cause the clear film to cloud. Once you get the feel for the best method, you will find the date at the top left as shown on a previous link.

- I'm guessing you will find a number close to 040776

let me know how it turned out.

Many thanks, Bill.

I'll give that a try when temperatures warm up a bit!
